Hello all. Brand new to the ChristiansUniteForums. I grew up in a religion that a lot of people call a cult. Because of the teachings I grew up with I am currently struggling with the issue that Christ IS God. I totally accept that He is the Son of God and have no problems with his life on earth, death or resurrection. But need scriptural guidance with the Trinity being ONE.

What 'cult' did you grow up in?

Yes, Jesus and God (and the Holy Spirit!) are One.  (Our eternal life depends on it!)  Smiley

Welcome to CU Jeneen  Smiley

I  can direct you to a  link that uses scripture with commentary to help more clearly  answer  your question, but first may I suggest you pray as you begin and study the scripture that God will give you spiritual understanding, this is so important, as so many try to understand the mystery of God with only intellectual reasoning to guide them, and without the spirit we can never come to the full knowledge of who God is, as He desires to reveal to us thru His Word.

“Am I so long a time with you, and you have not known Me, Philip? He who has seen Me has seen the Father. How is it that you say, Show us the Father?” (John 14:9)

God Bless you

Jeneen, think of it as three keyrings. Hook them together and you have three separate keyrings, which are one piece.

For the divinity of Jesus Christ, Look at the book of John. The first chapter identifies Jesus as God, through Whom all things are made:

John 1 - Study This Chapter

1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended F1 it not. 6 There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. 7 The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all men through him might believe. 8 He was not that Light, but was sent to bear witness of that Light. 9 That was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world. 10 He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not. 11 He came unto his own, and his own received him not. 12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power F2 to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. 14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.

The concept of Christ being not only a son, but God Himself, is difficult for anyone to search out. God is a mystery; in Dueteronomy He says that mysteries belong to the Lord, but all that He has revealed to us is ours to keep, to help us understand Him more. Even though we can't fully grasp the wonders of who God is, He helps us see little bits of Him through what He does and says.

If God were simpler than a trinity that is both three and one, it would seem that we Christians had made Him up. If we could explain away everything about God, would He really be real? If He were no more complicated than we humans, how could he have created us and the creation around us?
