In Austria, given Muslim first names outnumber the traditional first names of the natives (With charts)
August 10 2022

While names like Kevin and Jacqueline no longer appear at the top of the hit list, Turkish and Arabic baby names are heavily in vogue. Yusuf, Ibrahim, Malik and Zeynep are also becoming more popular in Austria, the latest data from Statistics Austria show.

The name Kevin was given only 21 times in Austria in 2021, while babies were named Malik five times as often (111). Ibrahim is also becoming increasingly popular and was given 51 times in 2021. Yusuf (79) , Moham(m)ed (57) and Ahmed (54) also show a positive trend.

Tehran unveils Western art masterpieces hidden for decades after Islamic Revolution
11 August 2022, 10:38 am

Some of the world’s most prized works of contemporary Western art have been unveiled for the first time in decades — in Tehran.

Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, a hardline cleric, rails against the influence of the West. Authorities have lashed out at “deviant” artists for “attacking Iran’s revolutionary culture.” And the Islamic Republic has plunged further into confrontation with the United States and Europe as it rapidly accelerates its nuclear program and diplomatic efforts stall.

But contradictions abound in the Iranian capital, where thousands of well-heeled men and hijab-clad women marveled at 19th- and 20th-century American and European minimalist and conceptual masterpieces on display this summer for the first time at the Tehran Museum of Contemporary Art.

Pastor faces death threats in Uganda after leading dozens of Muslims to Christ
 WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 10, 2022

NAIROBI, Kenya — A month after a Christian was killed in Kiboga District, Uganda, a pastor in the same district fears for his life following death threats from Muslim extremists, he said.

Pastor Godfrey Ssemujju, who oversees 130 Elim Pentecostal churches in Kiboga district, 75 miles northwest of Kampala, said the lives of his family and church members are also in danger.

“I am worried and very fearful,” Pastor Ssemujju said.

He said that one of the text messages read, “We warn you to stop converting our people to Christianity. If you continue doing this, then take note that [taking] your life is our Jannah [koranic paradise in the afterlife]. After killing you, our Allah will reward us with it.”

US charges Iranian Guards member with plot to murder ex-White House official Bolton
10 August 2022, 8:34 pm

WASHINGTON (AP) — An Iranian operative has been charged in a plot to murder former US national security adviser John Bolton in presumed retaliation for a US airstrike that killed the country’s most powerful general, offering $300,000 to “eliminate” the Trump administration official, the Justice Department said Wednesday.

Shahram Poursafi, identified by US officials as a member of Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, a US-designated terrorist organization, is currently wanted by the FBI on charges related to the murder-for-hire plot.

Prosecutors say the scheme unfolded more than a year after Qassem Soleimani, the head of the Revolutionary Guard’s elite Quds Force and an architect of Tehran’s proxy wars in the Middle East, was killed in a targeted airstrike at Baghdad’s international airport in January 2020. After the strike, Bolton, who by then had left his White House post, tweeted, “Hope this is the first step to regime change in Tehran.”

In the fall of 2021, Poursafi, an Iranian citizen who officials say has never visited the United States, offered $300,000 to someone he was corresponding with in the US if the person would hire someone to “eliminate” Bolton, according to an FBI affidavit unsealed Wednesday. Poursafi told the person, who was actually an FBI informant, that he wanted “the guy” to be purged or eliminated.

Hollywood Lieutenant Dan’s character has been ‘converted’ into a Pakistani terrorist named ‘Mohammad’ to peddle Aamir Khan’s usual propaganda
11 August, 2022

Aamir Khan’s comeback film Laal Singh Chaddha has been given a thumbs down by several critics. Though the movie was already facing boycott calls on social media and early booking signalled a failure, the much-hyped movie has now been given negative reviews by several film critics.

India Today’s review of the movie has called out Aamir Khan’s bad acting performance. They have termed Khan as the worst thing about the movie.

As per India Today, Aamir Khan has given a terribly disappointing performance and has made the legendary character of Forrest Gump played by Tom Hanks look like a ‘retarded’ person in its adaptation as Laal Singh. It is notable here that Tom Hanks starrer Forrest Gump, of which LSC is an ‘official adaptation’, is a widely acclaimed Hollywood classic and had won several Oscars.

'If you are gay, you should be hiding. It’s so hard. I was so scared. Scared from everything you know?'

The militant group Hamas has controlled the Gaza Strip for 15 years, taking ownership of the land in less than three days. As a result, being part of the LGBT community in Gaza is a crime, and members are constantly at risk.

Abdul, whose name was changed for his safety, spoke to i24NEWS about his experience living as a gay man in Gaza, growing up in a refugee camp under the group's rule.

Women can't appear in advertisements, THIS country issues ban after controversial and "indecent" ice cream ad --Watch
Aug 05, 2022, 03:49 PM

New Delhi: An ice cream advertisement showing a woman in loose Hijab with an allusive reference as she bites into a Magnum ice cream has stirred a major controversy in Iran. This has led the Iran's Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance to issue a ban on displaying of women in all advertisements and commercials.

Watch the Iranian Magnum ice cream advertisement here:

The body responsible for “enjoining right and forbidding evil” in the Islamic Republic of Iran has filed a lawsuit against the Iranian ice-cream manufacturer Domino over two controversial commercials, which it says are “against public decency” and “insult women’s values.”

Chadians Who Reject Marriage Proposals To Pay A Fine
10-Aug-2022

People who refuse a marriage proposal in Mangalmé in north-eastern Chad must now pay a fine, known as "amchilini".

The region's Higher Islamic Council ruled that the figure be between $23 (£18) and $39 for women and $15 for men.

The Chadian Women's Rights League has launched the hashtag #StopAmchilini to denounce the decision, saying it is illegal as it violates a national law guaranteeing freedom of consent to marriage.

The Islamic Council says its decision was inspired by the Quran.

10.08.2022

Eight people, including two policemen and a civilian, were killed in an attack by the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) at the central prison of Kakwangura in Butembo in the Congo, according to an army spokesman.

Eighty members of the "ADF terrorists" attacked the prison overnight Tuesday to free 13 comrades, including 12 women inmates, Capt. Anthony Mualushayi said at a news conference.

The ADF is a terror group affiliated with the Daesh-aligned Islamic State in the Central African Province (ISCAP) that has been committing atrocities for years in Congo.

Redesignate Yemen's Houthis as terrorists, says women's rights group on DC tour – JNS.org
19 hours ago  8 min read

At the same time that U.S. President Joe Biden traveled to the Middle East in July, a group of Yemeni women set off to Washington, D.C., to encourage the reinstatement of the Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) designation for Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels. The group members, representing a human-rights NGO, met with officials from the Biden administration, Congress and think tanks as part of their week-long trip.

The group included professor of political science Wesam Basindawa, who is originally from Yemen but now resides in Cairo. Basindawa is the founding president of the Yemeni Coalition of Independent Women and the leader of the 8th March Yemeni Union Women.

Joining her on the trip was Manel Msalmi, a Belgian-Tunisian academic, and founder and president of the NGO European Association for the Defense of Minorities, who has advised the European Commission, the European Parliament and UNESCO; and New York-based human-rights and national security attorney Irina Tsukerman.

Timed with their visit, the group wrote a letter to Biden, which included a list of human-rights organizations that work with Basindawa’s organization that could deliver humanitarian aid to Yemen’s population without going through the Houthis.

“The Yemeni population suffers; they don’t get the aid because it’s blocked by the Houthis, [which are] using blackmail by getting at least 50% of this humanitarian aid from the [United Nations] and the [European Union],” said Msalmi. “So what we are suggesting is a list of human-rights organizations that can be also trustworthy to do the job, instead of, let’s say, negotiating with the Houthis, which is a terrorist organization.”

While they admitted that the aid would have trouble getting into Houthi-controlled territory, Basindawa noted that a majority of the country—around 75% is not under Houthi control.

The Iran-backed Houthi rebels took control of the country in a violent coup that deposed the government and took over the country’s capital, Sanaa, with its government institutions and airport.

Cash Poor Ilhan Omar Ekes Out Narrow Primary Win, Republican Opponent Cicely Davis Raises $2 Million
By David Israel
15 Av 5782 – August 12, 2022

The last Republican to win in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional district was Walter Judd who was first elected in 1942 and lost his final reelection bid in 1962 to Democrat Donald Fraser. It’s been Democrats ever since, but last Tuesday’s election detected a weakness in the armor of the crazy faction of the Democratic party, represented by Somali-born Rep. Ilhan Omar: a moderate Democrat, African American Don Samuels. Omar had to fight for her political life this election season and eked out a measly 50.4% over Samuels’ 48.2%.

Her opponent in November, Cicely Davis, handily won the Republican nomination for the House in Minnesota’s 5th Congressional District with 48% of the votes, with the second-place candidate lagging with 37%. If anyone needs your support this election season, it’s Cicely Davis.

It’s hard to unseat an incumbent in any Congressional district in America, but Samuels enjoyed the clear advantage of not being a crazy Democrat. Omar supported the police abolition movement in Minneapolis that sought to dismantle the Minneapolis Police Department, saying that the department had “proven themselves beyond reform.” Samuels fought against the November 2021 Minneapolis, Minnesota, Question 2, Replace Police Department with Department of Public Safety Initiative. The amendment was defeated by a vote of 56 to 44 percent.
