THE FOUNDATION

“Excessive taxation … will carry reason and reflection to every man’s door, and particularly in the hour of election.” —Thomas Jefferson (1798)

IN TODAY’S EDITION

Mixed results for the GOP in Tuesday’s off-cycle elections.1
ABC has politically selective “editorial standards.”2
    Daily Features: More Analysis3, Columnists4, Headlines5, Opinion in Brief6, Short Cuts7, Memes8, and Cartoons9.

IN BRIEF

State Elections a Mixed Bag for GOP10

Tuesday was election day in several states across the nation. Headlining the list was Virginia, which saw Democrats gain majority control of both the House and Senate — a definite blow to Republicans. The state has become increasingly blue thanks to the growing population in northern Virginia surrounding Washington, DC. Virginia also saw a record amount of outside spending — to the tune of $13 million, largely in favor of Democrats. Notably, billionaire leftists George Soros and Michael Bloomberg each contributed over a million dollars, endorsing Democrats and leftist causes. Planned Parenthood received its largest contribution ever from Soros, while Bloomberg’s anti-gun group Everytown for Gun Safety spent more than $1.5 million. With the commonwealth now fully in Democrat hands, Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam is free to push through his radical agenda, which includes gun confiscation, an equal-rights amendment that threatens religious liberty, and a minimum-wage hike — all of which Republicans had blocked.

Meanwhile, Kentucky GOP Gov. Matt Bevin looks to have lost his reelection bid in a tight race — made tight only thanks to President Donald Trump’s last-minute campaign efforts that clearly helped shore up support for Bevin, who was trailing badly in the polls. However, Bevin has not yet conceded, claiming voting irregularities. Kentucky also made history by electing its first black attorney general, Daniel Cameron, who is also that commonwealth’s first Republican to hold the office in over 70 years. While much of the mainstream media sees Kentucky as a loss for Trump, the fact of the matter is that five of the six Republicans on the ballot won.

Down in Mississippi’s governor’s race, Republican Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves decisively defeated Democrat Attorney General Jim Hood, 54% to 45%. Other states had initiatives on the ballot including Texas, which passed Proposition 4, a significant amendment to the state constitution prohibiting the state from imposing an income tax. This is clearly a big win for the residents of Texas, keeping government growth in check. Residents in Colorado also voted down Proposition CC, an attempt by Democrats to chip away at the state’s Taxpayer’s Bill of Rights (TABOR). The proposition would have allowed the state government to keep any individual state tax returns rather than return them back to taxpayers. It was in essence a backdoor tax increase without actually raising taxes. Even in blue Colorado, a majority of residents still believe that their hard-earned money belongs to them and not the government.

ABC Spiked Epstein Story to Help Clinton11

ABC News isn’t the first network to spike a story for political reasons, but this one’s a doozy. The network admitted sitting on a 2016 interview with Virginia Robert Giuffre, who had accused the late Jeffrey Epstein of sexual assault. But it was the connections to Bill Clinton, Great Britain’s Prince Andrew, and Epstein attorney Alan Dershowitz that sent the interview to the dustbin.

ABC anchor Amy Robach complained on a secretly recorded video that the network would not air her interview with the accuser:

I’ve had the story for three years. I’ve had this interview with Virginia Roberts. We would not put it on the air. First of all, I was told, “Who’s Jeffrey Epstein? No one knows who that is. This is a stupid story.” Then the [British royal] Palace found out that we had her whole allegations about Prince Andrew and threatened us a million different ways. We were so afraid we wouldn’t be able to interview Kate [Middleton] and [Prince] Will — that also quashed the story. And then Alan Dershowitz was also implicated in it because of [Epstein’s] planes. She told me everything. She had pictures; she had everything. She was in hiding for 12 years. We convinced her to come out. We convinced her to talk to us. It was unbelievable what we had. Clinton — we had everything.

According12 to National Review, “Roberts has alleged that she was forced to perform sex acts on Prince Andrew … when she was seventeen.” The same goes for Dershowitz, who vehemently denies the allegations. It’s unclear what ABC had on Clinton, though he flew on Epstein’s infamous plane 27 times, and there were underage girls on the flights most of the time.

Of course, ABC claimed in a statement, “At the time, not all of our reporting met our standards to air, but we have never stopped investigating the story. Ever since we’ve had a team on this investigation and substantial resources dedicated to it. That work has led to a two-hour documentary and 6-part podcast that will air in the new year.”

And Robach insists she was never told to stop investigating Epstein, explaining, “As the Epstein story continued to unfold last summer, I was caught in a private moment of frustration. I was upset that an important interview I had conducted with Virginia Roberts didn’t air because we could not obtain sufficient corroborating evidence to meet ABC’s editorial standards about her allegations.”

If only ABC had editorial standards for all its stories. When it came to ridiculous, uncorroborated, and ultimately disproven allegations against Brett Kavanaugh, ABC — along with every other Leftmedia propaganda outlet — ran nonstop coverage of his accusers in service to the Democrat agenda of destroying him. According13 to the Washington Examiner, “Some of the allegations published by ABC were so outlandish that the FBI and the Senate Judiciary Committee didn’t even consider them.”

But damage Bill Clinton with an Epstein story? Suddenly there are editorial standards.

Quashing the interview wasn’t Robach’s only bombshell. Of Epstein’s recent death while in prison, she said, “Do I think he was killed? A hundred percent, yes, I do.” She’s not alone. Dr. Michael Baden, the noted forensic pathologist and former chief medical examiner for New York City, likewise has unanswered questions14 about Epstein’s injuries, which he says are more consistent with homicide than suicide.

Maybe ABC can get to the bottom of that one.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Gary Bauer: “The chaos in the Middle East is not limited to Syria. And while it is easy to overlook amid the churning domestic scene here at home, there are big developments taking place in Iraq and Lebanon. Massive protests against corruption have erupted in both countries, threatening Tehran’s grip on the region. The Iranian consulate in Karbala was attacked. The Iraqi flag was posted on the compound’s walls. In Baghdad, protestors have destroyed posters of Iranian leaders. In southern Iraq, a Shiite militia leader (backed by Iran) was pulled from an ambulance and killed in the street. In Lebanon, the prime minister has been forced to resign and there are growing protests against Hezbollah. Instability in the Middle East is rarely a good thing. But in this case, I find it encouraging that the people of Iraq and Lebanon are rising up against their Iranian occupiers. There are historical tensions between Arabs and Persians, and Iran’s influence in the Middle East is anything but benign. The ayatollah’s regime has earned its designation as the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism. Everywhere Tehran extends its tentacles, death and destruction follow.”

SHORT CUTS

Observations: “This isn’t your grandfather’s Democrat Party. If you look at their party platform, it’s not for working-class Americans. JFK would be an alt-right, neo-Nazi terrorist according to them today.” —Donald Trump Jr.

Food for thought: “The drug cartels are as vicious as ISIS, complete with a similar penchant for rape and mutilation, and they’re very close to duplicating the Islamic State feat of establishing a cross-border ‘caliphate.’ The border in question is the one between the U.S. and Mexico.” —John Hayward

Re: The Leftmedia: “ABC killed the Epstein story. NBC killed the Weinstein story. And these frauds have the audacity to act persecuted when Trump attacks them. They deserve every bit of it. Our media is a disgrace. Enemies of the people indeed.” —Matt Walsh

Political futures: “I’m perfectly happy to say Trump is to blame in various elections. I’ve done so in the past. But the KY GOP taking all statewide offices except Governor, flipping two statewide seats, and getting a state legislative supermajority doesn’t sound like anti-Trump feelings at work.” —Erick Erickson

For the record: “I have two friends that I spoke to over the weekend, both of whom I served in Congress with, neither of whom voted to impeach Bill Clinton, and both of them said they don’t think this rises to the level of impeachment.” —John Kasich

Faux virtue: “We have to move on impeachment because it’s not about politics. It’s not about polling. It’s about principle.” —unprincipled DNC Chairman Tom Perez

Rules for radicals: “They should not tell everything they’re going to do. Like if you are going to take people’s guns away, wait until you get elected and then take the guns away. Don’t tell them ahead of time.” —"The View’s" Joy Behar

Grand delusions: “I don’t think Medicare for All costs a lot of votes… I’m not sure that we lose any votes because of that.” —Rep. John Yarmuth

Non compos mentis: “Homelessness isn’t a crime. It’s a symptom of the greed that is destroying housing in America. When we are in the White House, we will stop the criminalization of homelessness and invest $32 billion over five years to end homelessness once and for all.” —Sen. Bernie Sanders

And last… “Let me get this straight: A story on Jeffrey Epstein’s sick crimes didn’t meet ABC’s journalistic standards but a video of a gun range in Kentucky passed off [as] the Syrian Civil War does?” —Charlie Kirk
