FAUXCAHONTAS PANDERS: “Presumably as a way to deflect from criticism over her checkered past of claiming Native American ancestry, [Elizabeth] Warren posted a lengthy proposal on Medium Friday morning in which she vowed to fix some of the problems pertaining to tribal nations,” according to The Daily Wire25. “Throughout her lengthy post, Warren makes several proposals, from making Native Americans a national concern, to affordable housing, to economic opportunities for tribal people, and to respect for native veterans.” Meanwhile, The Washington Times reveals26 that Warren’s binge spending “totals more than $5 trillion over a decade. That sum does not include other high-priced items on the liberal wish list such as … government-run health care.”
NAZI SYMPATHIZERS: “A group of high-school students in Southern California gave a Nazi salute and sang a Nazi song during an awards ceremony last year, according to video reviewed by The Daily Beast. The video shows about 10 members of the boys’ water polo team at Pacifica High School in Garden Grove, California, throwing the salute once used to greet Adolf Hitler while singing a Nazi marching song played for German troops during World War II. It’s the second such incident in the region in the year.” (The Daily Beast27)
ANTI-JEW ATTACK THWARTED: “An Ohio man has been arrested for making threats toward a local Jewish community center in New Middletown. … On Friday, the FBI Violent Crimes Task Force raided [the man’s] house and seized a cache of weapons and ammunition, including dozens of rounds of ammo, multiple semi-automatic weapons, a gas mask and bulletproof armor. … [The suspect] is an avowed anti-Semite and white nationalist and attended the deadly ‘Unite the Right’ rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017… During the raid on his house on Friday police also discovered anti-Semitic and white nationalist propaganda.” (ABC News28)
FRACTURED BUT NOT BROKEN: According to the Associated Press29, an Islamic State jihadi bombed a wedding in Kabul, Afghanistan, over the weekend, killing 63 and wounding 182. “The emergence of the Islamic State affiliate in recent years might be the greatest threat to Afghan civilians as the U.S. and Taliban seek an agreement to end nearly 18 years of fighting,” the AP reports. “While the U.S. wants Taliban assurances that Afghanistan will no longer be used as a launch pad for global terror attacks, there appear to be no guarantees of protection for Afghan civilians.”
BURGEONING SPECTACLE: “Hong Kong protest organizer Civil Human Rights Front estimates more than 1.7 million people gathered in the rain Sunday for the city’s 11th consecutive week of demonstrations. … What started as peaceful protests in June, including a June 9 demonstration that drew an estimated 1 million people, has since escalated, raising concern of potential Chinese military intervention.” (The Daily Caller30)
THE SUSPENSE GROWS: “Two Russian nuclear monitoring stations — specifically designed to detect radiation — ‘went silent’ in the days following an explosion31 of what many believe was a nuclear-powered missile earlier this month during tests at a remote base, a nuclear official said in an email Sunday. … The Guardian reported that radiation levels in Severodvinsk, a nearby city, increased 20 times above normal for about a half hour after the explosion. It has been reported that residents in the area have been stocking up on iodine, which helps reduce the effects of radiation exposure.” (Fox News32)
IRANIAN MALFEASANCE: “An Iranian supertanker with $130 million worth of light crude oil that the U.S. suspects is tied to a sanctioned organization has left Gibraltar and was heading Monday east into the Mediterranean Sea, with its next destination reported to be Greece. … The vessel left Gibraltar late on Sunday after having been detained for a month in the British overseas territory for allegedly attempting to breach European Union sanctions on Syria. Gibraltar authorities rejected attempts by the U.S. to seize the oil tanker again, arguing that EU regulations are less strict than U.S. sanctions on Iran. And Tehran on Monday warned Washington against any effort to grab the vessel again.” (CBS News33)

OPINION IN BRIEF
Michael Reagan: “Dove season opens in California and across the U.S. on Sept. 1. … But thanks to a proposition approved by 63 percent of Californians in 2016 and the leftist Democrat lawmakers in Sacramento who’ve been wrecking the state for 40 years, dove season this year will be much more complicated. A new state law aimed at reducing gun violence took effect on July 1 that requires anyone who buys ammo for any kind of gun to first pass a state background check. … Before I can buy the shotgun shells I’ll need this year, I have to go to a state-licensed vendor (a sporting goods store), give them all my information, show them my California driver’s ID and then pass a background check that takes anywhere from 3 to 30 days to clear. After I pass my $19 background check I have 30 days to buy the shotgun shells I’ll need. If after 30 days I need to buy more shells, I’ll have to pay another $19 for another background check. The DMV-like process of buying ammo in California is bad enough, but if I’m not careful about how or where I get my shotgun shells, I could become a criminal. … What if I asked one of my hunting buddies to give me a box of his shells? Good idea, but if he gives them to me he’ll break the new ammo law because he didn’t do a background check on me first. … What the geniuses in state government have done in a futile attempt to reduce gun violence is create a whole bunch of well-armed dove shooters who are hoarding enough ammunition for their guns to last the rest of their lives. I hope the bad guys don’t find out where we live.”
SHORT CUTS
Insight: “We are for aiding our allies by sharing our material blessings with nations which share our fundamental beliefs, but we are against doling out money government to government, creating bureaucracy, if not socialism, all over the world.” —Ronald Reagan
Upright: “A Hong Kong under siege has further meaning in the eyes of the world. It continues to be what it has been for decades, a living reminder that people anywhere can do anything if they have economic freedom. Hong Kong is a shining, unassailable testament to the power of unfettered capitalism.” —Issues & Insights’s Thomas McArdle
Broken clock: “BDS [Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions] is a bulls—t purity test by people who want to appear woke but actually slept through history class. It’s predicated on this notion — I think it’s very shallow thinking — that the Jews in Israel are mostly white and the Palestinians are browner, so they must be innocent and correct, and the Jews must be wrong. As if the occupation came right out of the blue, that this completely peaceful people found themselves occupied. Forget about the intifadas and the suicide bombings and the rockets and how many wars.” —HBO’s Bill Maher
Dumb and dumber: “We live in a country where we have cities that are banning plastic straws, but we can’t ban assault weapons? I mean, that just doesn’t make sense to me. Look, I think banning plastic straws will save the environment. I also believe that banning assault weapons will save the lives of many people.” —Rep. Cedric Richmond
Village idiots: “Instead of being the world leader technologically in addressing climate change, the United States has become a pariah. My colleagues on other continents are very concerned about the United States’s lack of initiative.” —Bill “The Science Lie” Nye
And last… “In Hong Kong, antifascists wave American flags, demand freedom and actually fight fascists. In Portland, ‘antifascists’ burn American flags, demand violence in the name of socialism. Portland is a sad showing of where we are today. All around.” —Dan Crenshaw
