IN BRIEF

Alternate Route for the Citizenship Question10

All the wrangling over the citizenship question11 on the 2020 census led Thursday to President Donald Trump’s Rose Garden announcement that while he will no longer attempt to put the question on next year’s census, he will take action to collect as much pertinent information as possible from his Cabinet agencies.

Trump declared, “I will be issuing an executive order to put this very plan into effect immediately. I’m hereby ordering every department and agency in the federal government to provide the Department of Commerce with all requested records regarding the number of citizens and noncitizens in our country.”

“It is essential that we have a clear breakdown of the number of citizens and noncitizens that make up the U.S. population,” he asserted. “Knowing this information is vital to formulating sound public policy.” It’s also vital in determining accurate population counts for representation in Congress. And it was no big deal until Trump became president. Rep. Jim Jordan noted, “We’ve been asking the citizenship question on the census in one form or another for 200 years.”

With no apparent self-awareness or sense of irony, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer pontificated, “It is nothing more — the president’s action — than a naked political power grab, which is one of the few things he’s good at as president.” Schumer added, “He will try anything to rewrite the rules to his advantage.”

Schumer perfectly described what Democrats do in attempting to rig elections to their advantage12 and what Barack Obama did for eight years with “naked political power grabs.” Indeed, Trump argued correctly, rabid opposition to the citizenship question “is part of a broader left-wing effort to erode the rights of the American citizen.” Citizens who, by the way, support the citizenship census question by large majorities.

As a final thought, it’s possible that Democrats are digging a hole for themselves on redistricting. In other words, by excluding the citizenship question and then pushing for redistricting based on population growth, they could be opening themselves up for legal challenges because there is not sufficient evidence that the people counted are U.S. citizens.

AOC’s Chief: The Real Green New Deal — Socialism13

In a recent Washington Post story featuring Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, he gleefully admits the real agenda behind the dubious Green New Deal. “The interesting thing about the Green New Deal,” Chakrabarti states, “is it wasn’t originally a climate thing at all.” He then adds, “Do you guys think of it as a climate thing? Because we really think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire economy thing.”

Chakrabarti recently met with Washington Gov. and Democrat presidential candidate Jay Inslee’s climate director, Sam Ricketts, to discuss their climate platform. He argued that Inslee’s focus on the environment was too limited. “I’ll be honest,” Chakrabarti said, “my view is, I still think you guys aren’t going big enough.”

While the revelation of AOC’s intentions behind the Green New Deal is not surprising (given the text of the bill), what is surprising is how freely her chief of staff admits to it being a guise by which to further a socialist takeover of the economy. Chakrabarti only confirms what Mark Alexander observed14 earlier this year: “This behemoth ‘climate change’ charade is … about the implementation of socialist economic policies. That consequence is evident in the fact that the absurd mandates of the GND (as outlined in its FAQ document, which was quickly removed from public view) would result in catastrophic worldwide economic collapse.”

AOC is an unapologetic socialist, but like all leftists, she cannot sell her socialism on its own merits, as none exist. Therefore, she co-opts a “problem” issue and proclaims socialism to be the only viable “solution,” when in fact nothing could be further from the truth. But her chief of staff let the cat out of the bag. It’s not really about the climate. It’s really about setting up a socialist totalitarian system in which the elites control everyone else.

TOP NEWS EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

ACOSTA RESIGNS15: “Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta resigned Friday amid growing backlash over his handling of the 2008 sex abuse prosecution of billionaire Jeffrey Epstein,” according to National Review23. Because the whole power of the Leftmedia propagandists is focused15 on the Trump administration, there has to be a lot of “falling on swords.”

CANARIES IN A COAL MINE: “Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Thursday offered advice to illegal immigrants seeking to avoid arrest and deportation by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers,” reports National Review24. This is akin to Sen. Cory Booker illicitly escorting migrant women across the border25.

WITCH-HUNT SUBPOENAS: “The House Judiciary Committee voted along party lines Thursday to authorize subpoenas for documents and testimony from a dozen current and former Trump administration officials and associates related to the panel’s investigation into alleged obstruction of justice by President Trump. The committee also voted to authorize subpoenas for documents and testimony related to the Trump administration’s immigration policies, amid massive outrage by Democrats over conditions in detention facilities at the southern border.” (The Hill26)

AN UGLY MILESTONE: “The federal government spent a record $3,355,970,000,000 in the first nine months of fiscal 2019 (October through June), according to the Monthly Treasury Statement released today. Prior to this fiscal year, the most the federal government had ever spent in the October-through-June period was in fiscal 2018, when the Treasury doled out $3,199,795,700,000 in constant June 2019 dollars.” (CNSNews.com27)

NO BACKBONE AFTER ALL: As reported by The Hill28, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey made a u-turn yesterday “a little more than a week after pulling state incentives29 from Nike following its decision to pull its Betsy Ross Flag shoes after former NFL star Colin Kaepernick raised issues around them.” Ducey remarked that “Arizona is open for business, and we welcome @Nike to our state.” We suppose money talks.

MUELLER DELAYED: “A House Judiciary Committee hearing with former special counsel Robert Mueller, who investigated possible obstruction of justice by President Trump, has been delayed by a week until July 24, according to a person familiar with the matter. … The two hours of time originally allotted for questioning had become a point of contention within the Democratic caucus because it risked preventing some Democratic members from asking questions.” (The Wall Street Journal30)

LOUISIANA PREPARES: “Wind and rain started to lash Louisiana’s Gulf Coast early Friday as residents prepare for what’s expected to be the area’s first hurricane of the season. … The storm’s rains are expected to pose a severe test of New Orleans’ improved post-Katrina flood defenses. Barry is forecast to bring more than a foot and a half of rain to parts of the state as it moves slowly inland. National Hurricane Center Director Ken Graham said pockets of Louisiana could have as much as 25 inches of rain.” (Fox News31)

TURKEY FLOUTS WARNING: “A shipment of a Russian-made missile system arrived in Ankara, Turkey, on Friday, which could cause tensions with the U.S. after the Defense Department said that sanctions could be issued if they accepted the weapons shipment.” (The Hill32)

OPINION IN BRIEF

David Limbaugh: “Yes, AOC’s Four Horsemen of the Apocaleft are more radical, but if left to their own menacing devices, Pelosi and Co. are plenty radical enough to complete Obama’s scheme to fundamentally transform the nation. The significant difference between the two groups is that Pelosi’s has enough sense and savvy to pretend to be more moderate to make itself more electable. AOC et al. are just too idealistic (though it pains me to associate their toxic views with any sort of idealism) to rein themselves in, even for pragmatic purposes. What we’re seeing is simply a turf battle for control of the party. It’s about power. Yes, Pelosi is the alpha, but AOC, despite her reliable buffoonery, is a force to be reckoned with, if for no other reason than she represents the future of her insane party. She is the product of decades of cultural indoctrination, and she is but one of millions of young radical leftists eager to accelerate the end of America as founded. Pelosi is fighting back because she has to, but in the end, they will have to make peace, or at least pretend to, going into the election season.”

SHORT CUTS

Insight: “Judicial verbicide is calculated to convert the Constitution into a worthless scrap of paper and to replace our government of laws with a judicial oligarchy.” —Sen. Sam Ervin (1896-1985)

Upright: “How is this controversial? Asking about citizenship? It’s like a question that has nothing to do with race at all. It’s about who is American and who is not. … Erasing our history, our sense of who we are, is making it easier to turn America into just kind of another member of a globalist superstate. Europeans sacrificed their identities years ago on the altar of globalism when they formed the European Union. And look at what it got them.” —Laura Ingraham

Village Idiots: “The earth is angry. We’ve been doing the same thing to the earth that we do to women. We just take and take and expect it to keep producing. And it’s exhausted. It can’t produce. We’re getting handed a piece-of-[expletive] planet, and I refuse to hand that down to my child. Until I feel like my kid would live on an earth with fish in the water, I’m not bringing in another person to deal with that. … [Millennials] don’t want to reproduce because we know that the earth can’t handle it.” —Miley Cyrus

Marching orders: “As we go into next week, I’d like to have a level of calmness, no drama, regarding the Mueller presentation.” —Nancy Pelosi to Democrat colleagues

Braying Jenny: “I know predators and we’ve got a predator living in the White House. He has predatory instincts and he has a predatory nature.” —Sen. Kamala Harris

And last… “[Ilhan] Omar isn’t the kind of immigrant we should want. That’s not because she is Muslim or black, but because she doesn’t believe in the traditional ideas that define American life. And she shouldn’t be immune from criticism merely because of her background.” —David Harsanyi
