IN BRIEF

FBI/CIA Blame Game as ‘Collusion Delusion’ Fails10

As the faux Russia-collusion conspiracy has turned belly up, smoke of a real conspiracy — what some are calling Spygate — has begun to billow. Spygate is the descriptor for the willful attempts by members of Barack Obama’s deep state to subvert and then oust a duly elected President Donald Trump by knowingly pushing bogus allegations of Trump’s supposed collusion with Russia. Now, like rats fleeing a sinking ship, these deep-state players appear to be turning on each other.

At the heart of Spygate is that infamous and unverified Christopher Steele anti-Trump dossier, paid for by Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the DNC and used by the FBI and Justice Department to obtain a FISA warrant to spy on members of the Trump campaign. Who knew what and when? A no-nonsense Attorney General William Barr is determined to get to the bottom of these troubling questions, and that has people scurrying for cover.

Two big names — former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey — are currently point the finger at each other, claiming that it was the other guy who pushed the dossier as legitimate. As former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy notes11, “A dispute between the camps of Comey and … Brennan broke out into the open — a dispute over which of them tried to force the dossier findings into the aforementioned intelligence-community assessment (ICA). This is a remarkable rift given that the dossier allegations in fact were not included in the ICA.”

Meanwhile, former FBI Counsel James Baker claims the reason the FBI alerted Trump to the unverified dossier in the first place was that it was already out in the media (because Comey leaked it). The FBI was supposedly “quite worried” that Comey might appear to be pulling a J. Edgar Hoover, using the dossier to blackmail Trump if he didn’t address it with the president and note that it had not been verified. However, Comey also chose to lie to Trump by telling him at the time that he was not the subject of an FBI investigation.

But Baker’s biggest admission was that the FBI took the dossier “seriously” but not “literally.” If that were indeed the case, would that not demand the dossier be carefully investigated and verified before it was used as legitimate source material for obtaining a FISA warrant? FBI agents certainly presented it to the court as such.

Finally, former Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein has also come out swinging against Comey after the disgraced former FBI director suggested that Rosenstein did not have the “inner strength” to “resist the compromises necessary to survive Mr. Trump.” Rosenstein blasted, “The former director seems to be acting as a partisan pundit, selling books and earning speaking fees while speculating about the strength of my character and the fate of my immortal soul. That is disappointing. Speculating about souls is not a job for police and prosecutors. Generally, we base our opinions on eyewitness testimony.” Not when you are indeed a partisan pundit selling books, as Comey most certainly is.

Sanders’s K-12 Indoctrination Agenda12

Bernie Sanders “aims to make sure children have access to a high-quality education, regardless of their race, income, and zip code.” That’s why he proposes banning certain choices and cutting all federal funding for others.

Not that he’s calling for some sort of renewed constitutional view of federal involvement in education, mind you. According to Vox, “He wants to triple federal Title I funding for schools that serve a large number of low-income students, set a national salary floor for teachers of $60,000, and provide universal school meals: breakfast, lunch, and snacks for every student year-round.” It’s part of Sanders’s 10-point plan13 to address K-12 education nationwide. We’re shocked — shocked — to note that all 10 points increase federal involvement, including the 10th plank that serves as a catch-all for immigration, gun control, and the Rainbow Mafia’s “equality” agenda.

But if you’re wondering how curtailing choices and market function helps children in failing schools, well, you’re not alone. Nevertheless, in a Saturday speech timed to coincide with the 65th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Brown v. Board of Education ruling — which, if you’re keeping score, was a good example of overturning precedent14 — Sanders argued that charter schools and for-profit models are “exacerbating educational segregations.” Furthermore, he insists, “We do not need two schools [sic] systems; we need to invest in our public schools [sic] system.” And how many billions of additional dollars have we thrown at the Education Dept. with nothing to show for it but lower test scores and learning?

His race-based appeal isn’t entirely convincing, however. Amy Wilkins, senior vice president of advocacy at the National Alliance for Public Charter Schools, says, “Sanders’s call is out of touch — as usual — with what African Americans want. More disturbing, the senator — for personal political gain — would literally lock African-American students into schools that have failed them for generations.”

That’s exactly the point. Sanders and other socialists vehemently oppose any competition for government schools run by the powerful National Education Association. That’s because they want all of America’s children to undergo a centralized indoctrination agenda that will train tomorrow’s Democrat voters.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Kathryn Jean Lopez: “Lisa Wheeler is one of the publicists working on the movie ‘Unplanned,’ about a Planned Parenthood clinic worker who became a pro-life activist. She’s also been the foster mother of over 15 children. On her Facebook page, she made a plea: ‘Children are not in foster care because they are unwanted. God wants them. I want them. I know many of my friends longing for motherhood want them. Children are in foster care because we have forgotten how to love one another. It’s time — right or left, pro-life or pro-choice — that we stand in the gap to help the mothers and the children who need us the most.’ Whatever you think of the prudence of the Alabama law, let’s meet here, in the gap, helping. Whatever your history. Our differences can help us be more sensitive to each other’s pain rather than further divide us.”

SHORT CUTS

The Gipper: “Freedom is the right to question and change the established way of doing things. It is the continuous revolution of the marketplace. It is the understanding that allows to recognize shortcomings and seek solutions.” —Ronald Reagan

For the record: “You cannot impeach a President because you are upset he won an election.” —Charlie Kirk

Good question: “[Abortion] isn’t rare. It is usually performed on perfectly healthy mothers and babies. And it isn’t the only alternative for women unable to raise a child. There are 36 couples waiting for an adoptive child for every one placed. Why is that humane solution so commonly overlooked?” —Mona Charen

Braying Jenny: “I’m calling for a boycott of Alabama. Until Alabama allows for safe & legal access to health care for women, I will not authorize spending of state resources on travel to Alabama. I call on other state and local leaders in CO and across the country to join me in this boycott.” —Colorado Secretary of State Jena Griswold

Non compos mentis: “Over time, you develop and evolve on the things you choose to honor. … [Thomas] Jefferson is more problematic. … The real reason I think there is a lot of pressure on this is the relationship between the past and present that we’re finding in a million different ways that racism isn’t some curiosity out of the past that we’re embarrassed about but moved on from. It’s alive. It’s well.” —Pete Buttigieg

Who needs deplorables anyway? “Observations from Iowa — it is very flat, driving is monotonous, there is more unbuilt land in one block than NYC has in an entire borough, dirt roads are terrifying, no one carries almond milk and caucus-goers are extremely well-informed.” —Politico’s Sally Goldenberg

And last… “I look forward to the day when our society can offer women a vision of freedom that doesn’t pit us against our unborn children and tell us we have to reject our biology in order to have an equal shot at fulfillment.” —National Review’s Alexandra DeSanctis
