IN BRIEF
Dems ‘Cannot Be Civil,’ Says Mob Boss Clinton1

Nate Jackson

“You cannot be civil with a political party that wants to destroy what you stand for, what you care about,” Hillary Clinton, who’s never been civil, insisted Tuesday. “That’s why I believe, if [Democrats] are fortunate enough to win back the House and or the Senate, that’s when civility can start again. But until then, the only thing that the Republicans seem to recognize and respect is strength.”

House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who was critically wounded2 by a Bernie Sanders supporter last year, responded, “Seriously, Hillary?” Rand Paul, who was shot at on the same ball field and who was severely beaten by a neighbor, warned, “I fear that there’s going to be an assassination. I really worry that somebody is going to be killed, and that those who are ratcheting up the conversation … they have to realize they bear some responsibility if this elevates to violence.”

Bill and Hillary have led the Clinton Machine for the last 30 years, specializing in the “politics of personal destruction.” Now, bitterness about her defeat in 2016 seems to dominate her every public statement. Indeed, the entire Democrat Party is still fomenting anger over Donald Trump’s victory. “I want to stop the degrading of the Rule of Law [and] the delegitimizing of elections,” Clinton said. She’s done nothing but degrade Rule of Law over her entire career, and it is Democrats who’ve used the “Russia collusion” narrative to delegitimize Trump’s election.

As for civility, that’s an even bigger problem these days3. All of America witnessed the screaming hordes mobbing the very halls of Congress over Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination4 to the Supreme Court. And it was Democrats, by the way, who gave those protesters access to the Capitol Building. That in itself is an underreported scandal.

Worse, Leftmedia reporting is practically mocking the very idea of an angry mob. A sampling of this week’s headlines:

“An angry mob”: Republicans work to recast Democratic protests as out-of-control anarchy —The Washington Post
Republicans have a new name for Democrats: “mob.” —CNN
The GOP’s sneaky attempt to paint the majority as an angry left-wing mob —The Week
Republicans Seize On Stoking Fears Of Left-Leaning Mob To Mobilize Voters —Talking Points Memo
Republicans: Protesters Are an Unruly Mob — Unless They’re Heavily Armed and Support Us —New York magazine
See, “angry mob” is just a GOP election slogan. Nothing to see here.

But when Maxine Waters is yelling to supporters5 to chase Trump administration officials out of restaurants, and Cory Booker is telling people to “get up in the face of some congresspeople” (echoing Barack Obama’s instruction to “argue with them and get in their face”), and now Clinton is saying Democrats can’t help be uncivil with evil, racist, sexist, rapist-supporting Republicans, we think Rand Paul’s warning has some merit.

The New York Post’s Michael Goodwin says, “There you have it — a declaration of war and a license for violence. Where is the media outrage? Clinton knows we are already in the danger zone when it comes to the political temperature. Her comments, then, are as reckless as bringing a can of gasoline to a bonfire.”

As a final thought, has there ever been someone who more often projects her own faults and practices onto her opponents?

Clinton said, “I remember what they did to me for 25 years — the falsehoods, the lies, which unfortunately people believe because the Republicans have put a lot of time, money, and effort in promoting them. So when you’re dealing with an ideological party that is driven by the lust for power, that is funded by corporate interests who want a government that does its bidding … you can be civil, but you can’t overcome what they intend to do unless you win elections.”

Falsehoods and lies? Check. Promoting them with money, time, and corporate interests? Check. Lust for power? Check. Government to do an ideological party’s bidding? Check. Hillary Clinton checks off every box on which she accuses Republicans. We’re still thankful voters saw through it in 2016, and we hope the same holds true in 2018.

Soros Funded Professional Flake Protester6

Thomas Gallatin

During the Democrat-created circus7 surrounding the Senate Judiciary Committee’s hearing for then-Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, a raucous leftist mob appeared to roam the halls of Congress with impunity. Kavanaugh’s initial three days of questioning before the committee was regularly interrupted by shouting protesters who had to be removed. But the moment that proved to be most affected by these protesters was a scene where Sen. Jeff Flake (R-AZ) was accosted by a woman as he entered an elevator. She claimed that she was a victim of sexual assault and demanded that Flake vote against Kavanaugh (essentially because he represented all assailants and Dr. Christine Ford represented all victims). The moment clearly shook Flake, as he later admitted, contributing to his decision to condition his vote for Kavanaugh upon yet another FBI investigation.

But who was this woman? Well, it turns out, like many of the screaming protesters, she’s essentially a professional. The Wall Street Journal explains8 that Ana Maria Archila is a Colombia-born sexual-assault victim who “is co-executive director of the Center for Popular Democracy. Her salary was listed as $156,333, with a bonus of $21,378, in a recent Internal Revenue Service 990 form.” And guess who significantly funds Archila’s organization? George Soros.

This fact lends weight to President Donald Trump’s recent description of the anti-Kavanaugh protesters as “an angry left-wing mob” of “professional protesters who are handed expensive signs … paid for by Soros and others.” Democrats and the Leftmedia have been hard at work orchestrating the “Resistance,” seeking to suggest that the majority of the country is opposed not only to Trump but to conservatism in general — hence the push back from the Leftmedia1 to these protesters being correctly labeled a leftist mob.

FEATURED ANALYSIS
Trump Should Kill Handouts to King Corn, Not Expand Them26

Louis DeBroux

President Donald Trump is one of the rarest of all creatures — a politician who keeps his promises.

Sick of politicians making grandiose campaign promises, only to discard them after the election, the American people shocked the world by electing a billionaire businessman and political novice in Trump, hoping that he, not beholden to special interests, would battle entrenched politicians and bureaucrats who wield enormous power in the DC swamp.

Trump, from a conservative perspective, has excelled beyond all expectations, slashing massive amounts of economy-crushing regulatory red tape, opening the throttle on American energy production, creating a pro-growth economic environment, pulling us out of or reworking bad trade deals, and making American sovereignty and prosperity the yardstick by which policies are measured.

Unfortunately, not every promise kept is a good thing, as evidenced by reports this week that Trump is giving a sop to the ethanol/corn industry27, issuing a waiver for summer restrictions on E15 (15% ethanol/gas blend) fuel, paving the way for year-round use.

This move is entirely political. In fact, after the announcement, Trump held a MAGA rally in Iowa, and that was no coincidence. Between helping Iowa Republicans in the election and heartland farmers hurt by Trump’s own tariffs, the political ramifications are significant, so this decision is, sadly, hardly surprising. For the American people, however, the benefits of expanding this boondoggle28 are dubious at best.

Last year, when former EPA Director Scott Pruitt announced rollbacks to the ethanol mandate, the response was swift and forceful. Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, issued a not-so-veiled threat29 to President Trump that the move would have consequences; namely, seeing his judicial nominees move through Grassley’s committee at the speed of molasses. Trump got the message, and the changes were put on hold.

Grassley however, has held up his end of the unspoken deal, deftly ushering Trump’s Supreme Court nominee, Judge Brett Kavanaugh, through a vicious confirmation process that made the Democrats’ reprehensible “high-tech lynching” of Justice Clarence Thomas seem downright neighborly by comparison.

Additionally, this ethanol decision may be the help needed to get Iowa’s Republican governor, currently trailing her Democrat opponent in the polls, and at least two at-risk Iowa House members, over the finish line to victory30. These wins would be critical when many are predicting a Democrat takeover of the House and Senate.

As for the ethanol change itself, it’s unlikely that it will take immediate effect. A lawsuit is planned that challenges the legality of the waiver. Additionally, a bipartisan letter from 20 members of Congress from oil-producing states went to President Trump last week, opposing the measure, arguing it would do nothing to protect refinery jobs and would actually harm American consumers.

And they are right.

The ethanol mandate his been a huge victory for Midwestern agricultural states, which are essentially guaranteed a buyer for every ear of corn they can grow, and then some.

Unfortunately, from a scientific and environmental standpoint, the mandate is a disaster. Ethanol harms gasoline engines31, eating through seals, gumming up fuel systems, damaging tanks, and introducing stray moisture into the system. This leads to thousands of dollars of unnecessary repairs for consumers.

Ethanol is 33% less energy dense than gasoline — meaning you have to burn 33% more ethanol to travel the same distance — and ethanol is dirtier than gasoline, generating significantly more formaldehyde, creating twice as much ozone smog.

Investor’s Business Daily asks32, “Do people want ethanol in their gasoline so badly they’re willing to pay extra for something that cuts their fuel efficiency by anywhere from 5% to 7% per mile?”

Then there is the destruction to the environment caused by clearing millions of acres of land for corn production. In the year 2000, only 5% of America’s corn crop went to ethanol production. By 2013, that had skyrocketed to 40%. To envision what a boondoggle the ethanol mandate is, consider that the amount of corn required to fill a truck’s 26-gallon gas tank would feed a person for an entire year!

A 2009 Duke University study found that growing corn for fuel production actually produces more CO2 than it saves. The Associated Press, in an in-depth investigation of the “green” energy industry entitled “The Secret, Dirty Cost of Obama’s Green Power Push33,” concluded:

The ethanol era has proven far more damaging to the environment than politicians promised and much worse than the government admits today. As farmers rushed to find new places to plant corn, they wiped out millions of acres of conservation land, destroyed habitat and polluted water supplies. …

Five million acres of land set aside for conservation — more than Yellowstone, Everglades and Yosemite National Parks combined — have vanished on Obama’s watch. Landowners filled in wetlands. They plowed into pristine prairies, releasing carbon dioxide that had been locked in the soil. Sprayers pumped out billions of pounds of fertilizer, some of which seeped into drinking water, contaminated rivers and worsened the huge dead zone in the Gulf of Mexico where marine life can’t survive. The consequences are so severe that environmentalists and many scientists have now rejected corn-based ethanol as bad environmental policy. But the Obama administration stands by it, highlighting its benefits to the farming industry rather than any negative impact.

President Trump has done much right since taking office, but this is a decision he needs to reconsider.

It’s also an area where bipartisan agreement — between limited-government, free-market advocates on one side, and environmentalists on the other — could be found and, who knows, maybe even generate enough goodwill to find common ground on other issues.

King Corn has ruled politics long enough. It’s time for a coup.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Michelle Malkin: “‘Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer’ debuts in theaters nationwide on Oct. 12. I do believe this groundbreaking film by indie producers Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney is the most important movie in America right now — a true-life saga of good vs. evil, deadly medical malpractice, systemic government malfeasance and cultural apathy toward the most vulnerable members of our society. I first reported on this real-life horror story nearly eight years ago, but you’ve probably not heard or read a word about ‘Gosnell’ in the mainstream press, TV news or online. The conspiracy of silence is the result of both malign neglect and active suppression of inconvenient truths. … Why? Because radical leftists zealously believe that abortion must be defended at all costs, even if it means whitewashing its bloody, half-century legacy of mass genocide in our nation’s inner cities. … In 2013, Gosnell was convicted of murdering three babies born alive in his death factory and found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of 41-year-old Bhutanese refugee Karnamaya Mongar, who died of a inhumanely administered drug overdose at Gosnell’s ‘Women’s Medical Society.’ … Whatever your position on abortion, this brave, independent film is an eye-opener that will change hearts and minds. Perhaps what the speech-suppressers who don’t want you to know about ‘Gosnell’ fear most is this chilling conclusion: Deadly indifference to protecting life isn’t tangential to the abortion industry’s barbaric practices — but at its very core.”

SHORT CUTS

Political futures: “If I’m [Judiciary Committee] chairman, they won’t take it up. … That’s a decision I made a long time ago.” —Sen. Chuck Grassley on a hypothetical 2020 Supreme Court nomination

Out of touch: “What was done [Monday] night in the White House [to introduce Justice Brett Kavanaugh] was a political rally. It further undermined the image and integrity of the court, and that troubles me greatly. It saddens me, because our judicial system has been viewed as one of the main pillars of our constitutional government.” —Hillary Clinton ( “I guess that’s why she lost. She doesn’t get it. She never did. I knew that a long time ago. Hillary never got it. That’s why she lost.” —Donald Trump)

What difference, at this point, does it make? “There’s a very significant difference. And that is the intense, long-lasting partisan investigation that was conducted in the ‘90s.” —Hillary Clinton on the difference between the accusations against Kavanaugh and her husband (The ones against her husband are also true.)

Non Compos Mentis: “We communicate not only with words, but with our body language and demeanor. I saw somebody who was very angry, who was very nervous, and I saw rage that a lot of people said, 'Well, of course you’re going to see rage; he’s being falsely accused.’ But it is at all times you’re to acquit yourself with a demeanor that’s becoming of the Court.” —Sen. Heidi Heitkamp on opposing Kavanaugh after watching the hearing without sound

Braying Jackass: “[Trump’s] apology [to Kavanaugh] was out of line. A majority of Americans believed Professor Ford… Why didn’t [Trump] apologize to Ms. Ford?” —Juan Williams

And last… “If you want to arrest climate change, screeching at people to radically reduce their standard of living in order to provide a hypothetical benefit to a nonexistent cohort of people probably isn’t going to get the job done.” —Sonny Bunch
