THE FOUNDATION

“Children should be educated and instructed in the principles of freedom.” —John Adams (1787)

IN BRIEF

Boycott Schools Over Lack of Anti-Gun Legislation?1

Once again a Democrat blames the lack of new legislation (albeit with the same old policies) for another school atrocity. Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT), the self-proclaimed “moral” authority on guns after Sandy Hook, proclaimed, “Let’s call it like it is: the horrifying inaction of Congress, slaughter after slaughter, has become a green light to would-be shooters, who pervert silence into endorsement.” Contrary to Murphy’s assertion, the fact is that none of the Democrats’ proposed gun laws, specifically the call to ban “assault” weapons, would have prevented the Santa Fe High School attack2.

In this case, the 17-year-old attacker was underage for legally purchasing any firearm, so an expansion of background checks would not have applied. The weapons he used were a shotgun and a .38 revolver, neither of which has been included in any of the Democrats’ proposed gun bans. The fact that no AR-15 was used might also explain why the mainstream media has not given this latest school attack nearly as much coverage as Parkland — it fails to move forward the narrative on the supposed pandemic danger posed by “assault” rifles. Democrats don’t care about children3 unless their political agenda can be advanced.

Obviously, despite what Democrats like Murphy claim, their real agenda is the repeal of the Second Amendment4.

Meanwhile, in an attempt to force Congress to act on anti-firearm legislation, Barack Obama’s former secretary of education, Arne Duncan, made an outright ridiculous call to action. “Do we just keep letting innocent children be killed, or do we want to do something to keep them safe?” he asked. “If we choose the latter, we must think radically, because everything we have done so far has failed.” What does “radically” mean? Duncan offered, “What if no children went to school until gun laws changed to keep them safe? My family is all in if we can do this at scale. Parents, will you please join us?”

Yes, here we have an education secretary telling kids to drop out of school. Never mind that kids are safer in school than out of it5.

Duncan then furthered the absurd notion that Congress’s inaction was to blame, bloviating, “This is not rocket science. This is not a difficult intellectual issue. What we have lacked is political courage, and we need to create the tension that allows us to break through on this issue.”

Beyond the asinine comments about Congress being to blame for this latest crime, the audacity to make claims of intellectually superiority while then suggesting that a boycott of schools will create enough “tension” to “break through” is quite simply laughable. Besides, how many kids want to be in school in the first place? Then again, an increased move toward homeschooling is something we can really get behind…

Trump’s Not Messing Around With MS-13 ‘Animals’6

Nate Jackson

The Leftmedia went out of its way to peddle a BIG Lie7 about Donald Trump and immigration last week — that he called all illegal aliens “animals” instead of simply the violent thugs of the MS-13 gang. Never one to shy away from a fight, Trump issued a White House statement yesterday titled “What You Need To Know About The Violent Animals Of MS-138.”

Trump’s statement recounts numerous incidents of “unthinkable violence of MS-13’s animals.” And he’s right — their crimes include decapitation, dismemberment and savage beatings and stabbings. “President Trump’s entire Administration is working tirelessly to bring these violent animals to justice,” the statement concludes.

Politically, this accomplishes two things beyond sending a message of law and order to illegal alien thugs. It reassures Trump’s base that he’s serious about addressing the worst elements among immigrants. And it also fires a shot across the Leftmedia’s bow that Trump won’t be intimidated by lies meant to “prove” his supposed racism. “I referred to them as animals,” he said later, “and guess what? I always will.”

Dennis Prager gets to the bottom of the issue9, “Biologically, of course, we are all human. But if ‘human’ is to mean anything moral — anything beyond the purely biological — then some people who have committed particularly heinous acts of evil against other human beings are not to be considered human. Otherwise ‘human’ has no moral being.”

Meanwhile, President Trump is requesting $500 million more10 for the border wall.

Yes, a Drop in Global Temperatures, But…11

Jordan Candler

A recent editorial from a typically reputable conservative publication touted a sharp global temperature drop between February 2016 and February 2018. There’s no disputing the fact that records indicate a temperature drop on a global scale during that time. However, the editorial — the purpose of which was to lambast the nefarious mainstream media for purposefully ignoring this inconvenient fact — did not explain fully what is actually happening. Here’s why:

Global temperature drops are typical after El Niños, which naturally warm the globe. La Niñas do the opposite. Moreover, the last El Niño (2015-16) was exceptionally strong — a.k.a. a Super Niño. Therefore, it only makes sense that a significant global temperature drop would follow, as we’ve just registered back-to-back La Niña years. That being the case, the fact of the matter remains that global temperatures remain above normal two years after the last El Niño and above where they were two years after other El Niños. A higher threshold is seemingly being established following each Super Niño. Before 2015-16, the last one occurred in 1997-98. A pause ensued, but that baseline was higher than the average temperature over the previous 20 years. This doesn’t prove ecofascists’ rationale (not to mention justify their “solutions”) for global warming, but it also doesn’t do conservatives any favors to borrow from the Left’s playbook by cherry-picking statistics simply for the benefit of aiding a narrative.

The cause may have to do with the immense amounts of water vapor that are released during Super Niños. These events result in a longer-lasting effect in Arctic regions years later, as tiny amounts of water vapor most affect temperatures where they are climatologically lowest and the air is driest. A glance at temperatures where most life occurs reveals that temperatures have returned to near normal, but the warmer polar regions are leading to the above-normal global temperatures, primarily during the coldest times of the year. It’s still very cold, but even slight warming there can skew the entire global temperature a few tenths of a degree higher. Regardless, global temperatures are still higher than they were after previous El Niños.

To its credit, the editorial in question does note that the latest temperature drop could be entirely meaningless. However, a little basic research would have precluded the editorial altogether. As meteorologist Joe Bastardi12 said in an email to The Patriot Post, “This is like saying you scored a couple of touchdowns and instead of being down 56-0 you are now losing only 56-14.” He added, “The point is that until temperatures return to or below normal, what is all the hoopla about? The other side can rightly point to a two-year post-El Niño record high.” The mainstream media should be criticized for how it handles reporting global warming. Conservative media should avoid falling into the same trap.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Dennis Prager: “If you want to understand the moral sickness at the heart of leftism, read the first paragraph of the most recent column by Washington Post columnist E. J. Dionne: ‘It’s never right to call other human beings "animals.” It’s not something we should even have to debate. No matter how debased the behavior of a given individual or group, no matter how much legitimate anger that genuinely evil actions might inspire, dehumanizing others always leads us down a dangerous path.’ … Anyone who refuses to ‘dehumanize’ the Nazi physicians — who, with no anesthesia, froze naked people for hours and then dropped them in boiling water to rewarm them; put people in depressurized rooms where their eardrums burst, driving them out of their minds from pain; rubbed wood shavings and ground glass into infected wounds, etc. — is, to put it very gently, profoundly morally confused. … Leftism consists almost entirely of moral-sounding platitudes — statements meant to make the person making them feel morally sophisticated. But based on their relative reactions to the sadists of the MS-13 gangs, I trust Donald Trump’s moral compass more than E. J. Dionne’s. … I once asked Rabbi Leon Radzik, a Holocaust survivor who had been in Auschwitz, what word he would use to characterize the sadistic guards in the camp. I will never forget his response: ‘They were monsters with a human face.’ Incredibly, Dionne would not agree with him.“

SHORT CUTS

For the record: "Family breakdown is probably a factor; out of the 27 deadliest mass shootings in the United States, 26 of the perpetrators were not raised by their biological fathers. But this by itself doesn’t explain it, because a lot of boys lack a father in the picture and don’t turn out to be mass shooters.” —Jim Geraghty

Observations: “Clinton’s [presidential] bid was saved, not destroyed, by Obama’s law-enforcement agencies, which tanked a criminal case on which she should have been indicted. And the hush-hush approach taken to the counterintelligence case against Donald Trump was not intended to protect the Republican candidate; it was intended to protect the Obama administration from the specter of a Watergate-level scandal had its spying on the opposition party’s presidential campaign been revealed.” —Andrew McCarthy

Campus anti-Semitism: “Last week, [New York City’s Beacon School] held a moment of silence for 62 Gazans killed during rioting along the Israeli border. At least 50 of them were members of the terrorist group Hamas. If Hamas had succeeded in breaking through the security fence and killed 62 Israeli civilians, would the Beacon School’s administration have called for a moment of silence for dead Israelis? I doubt it. There is a growing faction on the Left that has a high degree of tolerance for dead Jews.” —Gary Bauer

Alpha Jackass: “You’re doing well but you’re a mean, mad, white man.” —Michael Dyson disparaging Jordan Peterson

And last… “There doesn’t seem to be a real concrete intelligence origin for this investigation, and without a foundation, one wonders what did we spend an entire year on? … I spent a year fighting this thing with Ken Starr and I think this thing is just plain wrong and it’s got to be ended and stopped. … We’ve seen that the less [Mueller and his team] come up with, the more they investigate instead of the opposite.” —Mark Penn
