THE FOUNDATION

“Man, once surrendering his reason, has no remaining guard against absurdities the most monstrous, and like a ship without rudder, is the sport of every wind.” —Thomas Jefferson (1822)

IN BRIEF

So Much for Using the 25th Amendment Against Trump1

By Nate Jackson

There was a lot of crazy talk in that press conference about President Donald Trump’s health report yesterday, but none of it came from the podium. All the nonsense came from the Leftmedia due to chronic Trump Derangement Syndrome.

For some time now, Democrats and their media allies have obsessed about the president’s health — particularly his mental fitness — largely as 25th Amendment2 groundwork for their pathetic impeachment campaign. So the report given Tuesday by the White House’s lead physician, Navy Rear Admiral Ronny Jackson, deflated their hopes:

In summary, the president’s overall health is excellent. His cardiac performance during his physical exam was very good. … We discussed diet, exercise and weight loss. He would benefit from a diet that is lower in fat and carbohydrates and from a routine exercise regimen. … All clinical data indicates that the president is currently very healthy and that he will remain so for the duration of his presidency.

Jackson has spent a lot of time with Trump, and his report certainly calls into question all the baloney from author Michael Wolff and his book, Fire and Fury. “The guy can’t go put one coherent sentence after another,” Wolff insists. “He’s off. He can’t stay on subject. He can’t stay on point.” News outlets likewise have featured psychiatrists “diagnosing” Trump despite never having even met him. That got so bad the American Psychiatric Association told shrinks to knock it off3 with violating the “Goldwater Rule” — questioning from afar the mental state of a public figure.

In fact, due to the Left’s incessant questions, Trump insisted that he also take some sort of cognitive test, so Jackson complied, though he noted it was the first time a sitting president had undergone such a test. Trump scored a perfect 30 out of 30 on the very extensive Montreal Cognitive Assessment. Jackson noted, “If he had some type of mental, cognitive issue … this test is sensitive enough. It would pick up on it. He would not have gotten 30 out of 30 on the test. So I’m very confident at this particular stage that he has nothing like that going on.”

With a wink and a smirk, we might even concede that Trump is, as he called himself, a “very stable genius.”

Not so with the Leftmedia. Their utterly inane questions4 were something to behold. Questions ranged from asking about Trump’s love of fast food, Diet Coke and ice cream to wondering if he’d publicly step on a scale to prove he weighed 239 pounds. The obsession will continue.

Oh, and by the way, Jackson was also Barack Obama’s personal physician, and, as you recall, Obama refused to release some of his medical records…

Administration Seeks SCOTUS Ruling on DACA5

By Thomas Gallatin

Last week, U.S. District Judge William Alsup, a Bill Clinton appointee in “sanctuary” San Francisco, ruled in favor of a lawsuit brought by Barack Obama’s former secretary of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano, forbidding President Donald Trump from following through on his decision to end Obama’s executive order-created DACA program6. On Tuesday, the Department of Justice announced that it would seek to bypass the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and take the case directly to the Supreme Court. That’s yuge.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions defended the unusual move, stating, “It defies both law and common sense for DACA — an entirely discretionary non-enforcement policy that was implemented unilaterally by the last administration after Congress rejected similar legislative proposals and courts invalidating the similar DAPA policy — to somehow be mandated nationwide by a single district court in San Francisco.” Tom Goldstein, publisher of SCOTUSBlog, noted, “It’s an extremely unusual request, one that is granted once in a blue moon. It’s a signal by the Trump administration that they take this issue incredibly seriously and think the justices should, too.”

While this is indeed an unusual action, it is fully warranted given the fact that DACA is not law but an executive order, which a president is free to rescind. Meanwhile, Democrats aren’t actually interested in coming up with a legislative solution to DACA, though they do want to force Trump into keeping Obama’s lawless executive order. Reflecting on the real leftist agenda7 with the “s—thole” episode, Mollie Hemingway correctly observes8, “The out-of-context leak was designed to dampen the prospects of an immigration compromise. You may want to sit down for this, but sometimes people care more about profiting from a problem than solving a problem. What if Democrats are using DACA recipients as human shields for their own electoral plans in November, and to get increased voter intensity, higher political donations, and greater turnout in upcoming elections?”

Why ask, though, when you can just state the fact: Democrats want to drag out DACA as long as possible, especially during an election year, all in a cynical ploy for votes. Trump is looking to end the stalemate.

FEATURED ANALYSIS
About Those Supposed LGBT ‘Hate Crimes’24

By Lewis Morris

The murder of Christa Leigh Steele-Knudslien in North Adams, Massachusetts, earlier this month has taken on larger significance than local police would have thought possible. Steele-Knudslien was murdered by her husband Mark in their home. Mark later turned himself in and was arrested for the crime. While no motive was made known to the public, it appeared at first blush Christa was a victim of domestic violence. Then the Human Rights Campaign got involved.

Christa was transgender. The HRC emphasized this fact in the case when it tweeted that Christa was “the first reported murder of a trans person in 2018.” The case has not even gone to trial yet, but the HRC and the larger LGBT community is already convinced this was a hate crime simply because Christa was transgender.

LGBT activists and organizations would have us believe that any crimes perpetrated against members of their community are hate crimes, motivated solely by the fact that victims are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender. The violence that is supposedly committed against transsexuals in particular is of record proportions, if you are to believe a study the HRC published last year.

According to the study25, 2017 was the deadliest year on record for transsexuals, with trans women four times more likely to be murdered than those who correctly identify as women based on their biology. How many transgender people were killed in 2017? Twenty-eight.

Murder is a terrible crime, and even one murder is a tragedy, but 28 people out of a self-identified population of 1.4 million26 hardly suggests genocide. Furthermore, the HRC would have us believe that every one of these murders took place simply because the victims were transgender, rather than robbery or acts of domestic violence. By the way, that 1.4 million number, reported in 2016, doubled from the prior year, and has risen since as more people become wrapped up in the wave of gender dysphoria.

The HRC and other LGBT organizations have a vested interest in driving this hate crime narrative. It keeps them at the center of their community making lesbians, gays, and transgender people look to them for social and political guidance, it keeps their coffers flush with donations, and it gives them political muscle.

Pushing this narrative, however, ignores a significant problem in the LGBT community, particularly in the case of Christa Steele-Knudslien, and that is domestic violence. Two studies reported in the homosexual-oriented publication The Advocate in 2014 found that domestic violence is rampant27 in the LGBT “community.”

The National Violence Against Women survey found that 21.5% of men and 35.4% of women living with a same-sex partner experienced physical violence from their partner, compared with 7.1% and 20.4% for men and women, respectively, with a history of only opposite-sex cohabitation. Another report from the CDC stated that “the lifetime prevalence of rape, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner was 43.8% for lesbians, 61.1% for bisexual women, and 35% for heterosexual women, while it was 26% for gay men, 37.3% for bisexual men, and 29% for heterosexual men.”

If the HRC is truly concerned about the wellbeing of members of the LGBT community, it would want to explore the issue of same-sex domestic violence rather than push the hate crime narrative. Unfortunately, LGBT organizations have come to believe that creating an “us versus them” mentality has done more for their cause of gaining social acceptance. Meanwhile, disproportionate numbers of people within this community are suffering in silence literally at the hands of their own partners.

The miscategorization of these murders and acts of violence is a travesty of justice that insults and harms the victims and throws our justice system and our society off balance. Perhaps the most famous instance of this was the murder of Matthew Shepard in 1998. Shepard was beaten and killed by two men who, according to the official narrative, identified him as homosexual and decided to kill him based on that fact.

Shepard became the poster child for the homosexual-rights movement, and Wyoming, where the murder took place, became the image of a redneck land filled with backwards-thinking homophobes. Unfortunately, for leftist and LGBT activists, the truth was not so convenient.

Investigative journalist Stephen Jimenez did extensive research28 into Shepard’s murder and, after 13 years of work and interviewing more than 100 people connected to the case, he found that Shepard was likely murdered over a drug deal gone wrong.

Shepard knew his two killers, one with whom he carried on an infrequent homosexual relationship. They bought and sold drugs from each other, and several people Jimenez spoke to knew with certainty that Shepard was a drug addict and dealer. This inconvenient fact angered the LGBT community, which railed against Jimenez’s work and vilified him in the press.

LGBT and leftist groups don’t like it when facts get in the way of their narrative that America is filled with angry white men of privilege who lash out at anything different. That’s why you’ll keep hearing about phony “hate crimes” that, in reality, were brought about by other problems.

OPINION IN BRIEF

Ben Shapiro: “There’s a word that has become popular in feminist circles these days: ‘mansplaining.’ The word is a mashup of ‘man’ and ‘explaining’ and refers to men who condescendingly explain the facts of life to women. … Well, feminists, it’s time to stop ‘feministsplaining’ sex to men. The #MeToo movement has been good for America. It’s good that women who have been sexually assaulted and abused are coming forward; it’s good that we’re finally having conversations about the nature of consent and the problems with a casual hookup culture that obfuscates sexual responsibility. But the #MeToo movement hasn’t stopped there. Men are now being pilloried for the sin of taking women too literally — of not reading women’s minds. … How about this: no feministsplaining and no mansplaining when it comes to sex? How about we instead focus on communication between men and women? How about sexual partners demand more from one another than physical release so they aren’t disappointed that they’re being treated as sex objects? A system prizing love and commitment doesn’t require nearly the amount of explanation as a system that dispenses with both.”

And last… “Gonna be incredible when some Democrat screams ‘YOU LIE’ at Trump during the State of the Union and the entire media cheer wildly.” —Ben Shapiro
