Jesus is God - John 10

Hi all,

I know there is a (lengthy) thread about the question of whether Jesus is God in this forum, but I just spotted something interesting that pretty much stands on its own, so I thought I'd put it into a separate thread.

I've been reading John 10, where Jesus says "I am the good Shepherd". Now, aside from the "I AM" statement in that, I noticed a possible cross-reference to Ezekiel 34 which I thought was interesting:

15 I myself will be the shepherd of my sheep, and I will make them lie down, says the Lord God.   16 I will seek the lost, and I will bring back the strayed, and I will bind up the crippled, and I will strengthen the weak, and the fat and the strong I will watch over; I will feed them in justice.

Now, reading that and the whole chapter of Ezekiel 34 makes me think that Jesus was intentionally referencing this scripture, and making it plain that He is God at the same time.

I'd be interested in hearing your reflections on this.

Yes, Emma, I'm reminded of some other OT references where God says he will take the initiative "myself"... that He alone is doing it...

That Jesus IS God is wonderful.

And here we are killing Him--and Him letting us.

Almost as if there were some kind of heavenly bet going on, just like in the parable..."But if I send my Son(myself) to them, THEN they will respect him..."

Sure enough, we fail on all counts.  We are mean enough on al counts .  And we would kill Him if he himself came down and took on bodily form.   A rogue world.

The entire book of Isaiah from chapter 6:1-5, onward is referring to Jesus, this is made clear at the NT gosple of John 12:35-41, note that it is the NIV, which makes this very clear..

41  Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus glory and spoke about him.

The Lord Jesus said at;

Isa 42
11  ..........................my glory will I not give to another,

And at John 17, he prayed;

Jhn 17
1  Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:
2  As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.
3  And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.
4  I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
5  And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.


It is a mystery, which only those to whom it is given to understand, can know it.

Christians born of the Spirit of God, understand it perferctly.
