Jesus, remember me... Luke 23:42

What is your favorite verse?

I actually have many – but I guess (as I reflected to A4C in another thread) a favorite that has stuck in my head for many, many years is from the Old Testament:

But unto you that fear My name shall the Sun of Righteousness arise with healing in His wings; and ye shall go forth, and grow up as calves of the stall.
Malachi 4:2 (KJV)

The first time I read this verse was in a translation called “The Good News Bible” (which I abandoned some 20 years back for the KJV and NKJV).  In the GNB it translated to say “…and you shall go forth as a calf let from the stall” which has quite a different meaning.  However, having grown up on a ranch, I can appreciate both.  A calf OF the stall is “fat and happy”, a calf LET from the stall is joyous in its freedom.

Either way, however, this verse is one that prophesies the healing joy of having the Holy Spirit alive in your heart.

I would be interested in reading your favorite verses – and why it is your favorite!

Yours in Jesus,
JN

My favourite is John 11:25-6:

Jesus said to her, "I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and whoever lives and believes in me shall never die."

I like it firstly because of the promise, that we shall never die because we believe in Him. That we will be resurrected. I like it because it reveals who Jesus is (I AM).

And I also like it because of its rhythm, because of the roll of the words. It always makes me think of that line of Dylan Thomas' to it, having it say: "though he die, yet shall he live, and death shall have no dominion".

Never.

My 'new' sanity verse is:
Deuteronomy 2:
2  And the LORD spake unto me, saying,
3  Ye have compassed (circled) this mountain long enough: turn you northward.

Now, when the same-old, same-old, starts to get to me; I just remind myself that I have circled that mountain long enough!

Quote
"With what shall I come before the LORD,
and bow myself before God on high?
Shall I come before him with burnt offerings,
   with calves a year old?
Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams,
with ten thousands of rivers of oil?
Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression,
the fruit of my body for the sin of my soul?"
He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the LORD require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?

Micah 6:6-8

This is one of my favorite passages.  It speaks volumes to me.  With what shall I come before my Lord?  Does my God want a quality, or a quantity of sacrifice?  Does He want what means most to me to cover my sins?  No!  He wants just obedience, my love for kindness, and my humble walk with Him.  It's not what I give, how much I give, or how important my gift is to me that matters.  It's what I am, what I love, and my humility in following Him that He requires of me.  What's more?  He helps me meet that requirement.   Smiley

Nice thread JN!

I have many verses that anchor my life; but for poetry's sake, I love Proverbs chapters 8 and 9, especially 8:22-31.
