Richard A. Viguerie Announces Formation of the Stalwarts Club

by Staff
May 19, 2010

MANASSAS, Virginia, (christiansunite.com) -- The Stalwarts Club was recently formed by conservative leaders Richard A. Viguerie, Craig Shirley, Diana Banister and Mark Fitzgibbons to advance the conservative cause and promote constitutional principles.

The organization will promote principled conservative candidates and identify and oppose establishment Republican candidates in the primaries.

Viguerie said the 2010 election is the opportunity of a lifetime to elect principled, "boat-rocking" conservatives who won't merely slow down the growth of government, but will provide the leadership most Americans want to actually shrink the government, promote freedom and to return America to the vision of our Founders.

The Stalwarts Club will initially consist of about 20 conservatives who have consistently shown their adherence to conservative principles.

The Stalwarts Club will serve to identify issues of concern to conservatives and will weigh in on key primary races in which truly principled conservative candidates are running against establishment Republican candidates, particularly those who are backed by GOP congressional leaders.

Viguerie stated, "Republicans lost Congress in 2006 and the White House in 2008, not because of Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid, but because of high-spending, big-government Republicans who betrayed 50 years of sacrifices and hard work by millions of grassroots conservatives."

"With the Tea Party Movement, we're seeing new leaders spring up in response to the failed Republican leadership. People are demanding new elected officials and Republican leaders unfettered by old ties, relationships and cronyism."

"If the 2010 elections result in sweeping Republican victories, but without a new type of Republican leadership - that is, conservative elected officials and party leaders whose goal is to return government to its proper constitutional size and role -- then we've wasted the opportunity of a lifetime."
