I guess I was thinking with the new satellite technologies, that even if landlines, cells, etc. were down, that that would be the alternative.
I suppose this is true. But HF radios can bounce signals off the upper atmosphere and reach clear around the world to. And best part of that is, theres no long distance charges
Glad to see it still around though. So, you have a mobile unit in your car; you radio a pizza order, it gets picked up over a landline, then the pizza place gets your order over their telephone, but you're doing it from a mobile ham?
Thats right! Its called an autopatch. Of course this relies on a stationary repeater somewhere to connect you to a phone line. And you still have to pick up the pizza...lol
