Sebelius Delays Action on Late-Term Regulation & Partial-Birth Abortion Ban

by Staff
April 29, 2009

MEDIA ADVISORY, (christiansunite.com) -- Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius has signed 23 bills since Hsub 218, a late-term abortion regulation and partial- birth abortion ban, landed on her desk April 13th. But as of Tuesday afternoon, AP reports she is still "weighing" the bill, knowing that Friday it becomes law without her signature.

"But what she is weighing is not the constitutionality of the bill, but its effect on the "non-extremist" persona she has tried to develop in the U.S. Senate, as they head toward a final vote on her appointment to head HHS.

"Vetoing the bill would be her parting gift to Tiller, and a final kick in the teeth to all the victims of Tiller's late- term abortion racket, including Michelle Armesto- Berge. Michelle has tried for days to get even a token appointment with the Governor to enumerate the violations of abortion law she experienced, resulting in the demise of her first child.

New facts spark passage on last day of session:

"Kansas lawmakers acted responsibly on April 3, the last regular day of the session, to pass Hsub 218, in the face of late-breaking evidence that abortion law is ignored in this state. KDHE statistics released that day showed a 14% rise in post-viability abortions in 2008.

"On March 27th, the state Healing Arts Board had made an unprecedented public announcement that they were seeking the revocation of abortionist George Tiller's license, stating as fact that he was in a continuing illicit arrangement with an affiliated abortionist.

"Sebelius never even makes a pretense that such evidence of law-breaking concerns her. That pro- abortion position is exactly what Tiller celebrated following her election as governor, saying his 'efforts were instrumental' in her 'victory' and that they now 'had an ally in the highest office of the state.'

"Tiller money has played a big part in Kansas Democrat politics, beyond the nearly $40,000 given directly to Sebelius since 1992. Sebelius' response has been to fight any laws aimed at curbing illegal abortions in Kansas. She went so far as to recruit, not just any candidate for Attorney General in 2006, but one who publicly pledged to drop the ongoing Tiller and Planned Parenthood late-term abortion investigations.

"Sebelius vetoed reasonable measures to remove loopholes in late-term abortion law enforcement and reporting in 2006 (SB 528 ), 2007 (KDHE budget proviso), and 2008 (Comprehensive Abortion Reform Act).

"One thing is sure, any action she takes on Hsub 218 will be totally for self-serving reasons. Based on Sebelius' history of misrepresenting the pro-life bills she vetoes, we offer a list of pre-emptive rebuttals to mischaracterizations about Hsub 218."
