Gov. Gregoire's Current Quagmire -- MerryHappyChristmaHoliKwansukkah ...and Enjoy a Wonderful Winter Solstice

by Dan McCullough
December 17, 2008

OPINION, Dec. 11 (christiansunite.com) -- "You've got to stand for something or you'll fall for anything" ... these lyrics from a popular song make me think of Washington State's Governor Chris Gregoire. Perhaps it's not that she's fallen for anything but rather supporting everything in an apparent move to appease all.

Governor Gregoire recently allowed the "Freedom from Religion Foundation" to post a sign next to a Nativity scene that read "There are no gods, no devils, no angels, no heaven or hell. There is only our natural world. Religion is but myth and superstition that hardens hearts and enslaves minds." Now the Olympian is reporting an apparent slew of requests for various signs to be approved by the governor's office to be posted as well. One group receiving a lot of attention for their request is the Westboro Baptist Church that wants their sign posted that reads "Santa Claus will take you to Hell."

Personally I'm thinking of submitting my own request to post a sign on April 1st that reads, "This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." It could stand right along side of the Atheist's sign celebrating their own national holiday.

Oh what a tangled web Governor Gregoire has woven for herself. But it only makes sense that nonsense prevails in a culture dominated by those given to a mindset of moral relativism - believing there is no right or wrong. With such thinking we end up with millions of innocent children murdered through abortion on demand, we end up with people completely nude committing perverted homosexual acts on public streets and sidewalks as part of "gay parade" activities while police officers stand by and do nothing. If there is no real right or wrong why shouldn't a governor be allowed to sell a vacant senate seat to the highest bidder. When we understand this mentality we can understand why Barrack Obama would vote against a bill that would require medical attention be given to living, breathing, little babies that had survived an attempted abortion.

In an "anything goes" society anarchy, not freedom, will prevail and in the end we all lose.

In the spirit of this Christmas holiday season I hope and pray for a wonderful gift for Governor Gregoire and so many other political leaders of our country. It is a gift that I cannot give but a gift I do believe they are offered if they will only accept it, that is the gift of commonsense. A gift that, should those without it choose to accept it, would benefit us all.
