I think my address was changed yesterday. Does that mean that, had I not logged in, I could make a new account and you wouldn't know?

Your IP address changed on the 24th. Doing as you suggest it would have been more difficult to tell that it was you but there are still other ways to figure it out.

I am losing track of time, lol.

How else would you figure it out?

Why do ask? I'm asking that because most people that want to know are the ones that try to sneak around on various forums, want to get back on a forum they have been banned from etc.

Hello Brother David,

Many people have IPs that change every time they connect to the Internet. I have an account like that now, and the majority of my history in using the Internet did involve a continually changing IP number. This is one reason why Login Names and Passwords are so important and why they should be kept safe. Someone else getting this information could do all kinds of bad things and hurt your reputation. However, there would be many ways to prove that someone else was using your account. Regardless, it's wise to protect your private information.

In the case of criminal activity, there are all kinds of other identifiers to use and records that are maintained in almost countless ways. Much of the information does require a warrant to get, but the important thing to know is the information is there. If the information was mine, I could release it and use it to clear myself, so there is also a positive side of this. By the way, I prefer an IP that changes continually because it's harder for someone to target my computer for a virus or otherwise victimize me in some way. For like reasons, every account that gives you authenticated sessions should have a different user name and password.
