How come we don't hear about him after Jesus's childhood?

We know for sure that Joseph taught Jesus the trade of being a carpenter. We also know that Joseph and Mary had a number of children. Although nothing is mentioned on it we can pretty well figure that Joseph had died sometime between his last mention when Jesus was 12 (Luke 2) and the time Jesus started His ministry at about the age of 30. We can figure this as Mary and Jesus' brother were mentioned during this time but there is no mention of Joseph being with them. We also know that as Jesus hung on the cross He commended Mary to John's care. This would not have been necessary if Joseph were still alive.

There are a lot of such details as this that were left out of scripture because they were not an important detail in the Gospel.
