'Silent No More' Women Urge American Psychological Association to Examine Latest Abortion/Depression Study

by Staff
August 14, 2008

STATEN ISLAND, Ny., (christiansunite.com) -- Leaders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign (SNMAC), the world's largest network of women and men harmed by abortion, said today that the American Psychological Association (APA) needs to consider the latest major study from Norway that clearly shows a link between abortion and subsequent mental health problems.

"Next week the APA may adopt a new report on the link between abortion and health problems such as depression," said Janet Morana, co-founder of SNMAC. "New research from Norway reconfirms what women across America already know all too well - abortion doesn't end your problems, it creates new ones. The APA needs to ignore political pressure and report the truth about abortion's painful aftermath."

The Norwegian study, published in the Scandinavian Journal of Public Health, questioned 5,768 women between the ages of 15 and 27. It concluded that young adult women who undergo induced abortion may be at increased risk for subsequent depression.

"Abortion is not just a life terminating experience for the baby, it's a life altering one for the mother," added Georgette Forney, another co-founder of SNMAC. "The APA cannot continue to ignore study after study and pretend that eliminating a child from your life is consequence-free. It will be interesting to see if a pro- abortion bias will continue to trump science and women's realities when the psychologists meet next week."

Since the launching of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in 2003, 2,326 women and men have shared their testimonies publicly at over 200 gatherings in 44 states and six countries where more than 15,000 spectators have heard the truth about abortion's negative aftereffects. More than 4,100 people are registered to be Silent No More. Raising awareness about the hurtful aftermath of abortion and the help that is available to cope with the pain are two of the Campaign's goals.

The Silent No More Awareness Campaign is a joint project of Anglicans for Life and Priests for Life. For more information, please visit their website: www.SilentNoMoreAwareness.org
