I just received a watch for Christmas-a beautiful one. The really heavy stainless kind with all the features-gorgeous watch and I really love it.

I've had it on my wrist since about 9 or so, and on the spot where the watch has been resting, my skin is burning and I have bumps all over that itch. Is it really possible that I'm allergic to this watch??? This stainless steel watch??? Say it isn't so.

Oklahoma Howdy to Whitehorse,

It might not be so. Check and see if it has a very thin protective coating of plastic or some other material to protect the finish. If so, scrape it off with your fingernails, clean it, and try it again. If not, there may still be some polishing or buffing compound still on it. Clean it and try again. If that doesn't work, slap Tibby with a 10 pound carp.   Cheesy

Yes, I would also say clean it.

Perhaps some of the agents used to make the steel stainless are still on it or the cleaning agents used to remove same.

Maybe you are allergic to stainless steel period. Have you ever had stainless jewelry before? Did it do this?

That is a very nice gift. I pray you can get this problem with it overcome.

Ah, the remedy for everything.  Grin

Its too bad about your watch - if its still irritating your skin, perhaps you could coat the inside metal with vaseline, I've heard (distantly) that that sometimes helps...(messy, though.)

I kind of gave call my carp to the homeless shelter for Christmas Undecided I still have some tuna, thou! How about it I slap you on either side of the head with a 5 lbs tuna? Cool

Have you ever worn stainless steel before? I have to same problem with non-gold and silver metals. My skin reacts to it. I mean, If the top of the buckle of my belt touches my skin when I sit down and I sit down for an hour, by tomorrow it looks like a fire art attack! Maybe you are just allergic to metal.

Thanks for the tips, guys! I washed the watch and put it on my other wrist, but it started to rash after an hour, so I took it off again and scrubbed it with isopropyl (rubbing) alchohol. Then I put it back on. I've had it on for hours--no rash!! You're right; it was something on the watch.

BEP, thanks for the tips; it worked! But can I still hit Tibby with the carp?

Ollie, thanks for your advice and prayers, which you helped come true. I do love the watch and really didn't want to have to return it.

Tib, I'm sorry about your metal allergy. I have an allergy when it comes to my piercings-I can't even wear gold.

Willow, thanks for the idea-maybe I can try it with my piercings. I do have a backup fish at the station if you'd like to borrow it...
