Idaho's Anti-Coerced Abortion Law Should be Enacted Nationwide Say 'Silent No More' Leadersby Staff
April 18, 2008
STATEN ISLAND, Ny., (christiansunite.com) -- Idaho's new law establishing the crime of abortion coercion should be enacted in every state say leaders of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign, the world's largest network of women and men harmed by abortion.
The measure, which may be the first of its kind, creates criminal penalties and civil liability for anyone who threatens or inflicts physical harm on a pregnant woman in order to force her to have an abortion.
"A statute like this is long overdue," stated Georgette Forney, co-founder of the SNMAC. "Abortion is traumatic on its own, coerced abortion is beyond horrific. Those who oppose domestic abuse and those who seek to protect women and their unborn babies should unite to support this kind of legislation in every jurisdiction."
"It's hard to imagine anyone opposing a bill against forced abortion," added Janet Morana, another co- founder of the SNMAC. "If your concern is for women, you will want those who attack and threaten them punished. If your concern is for the abortion industry, though, you will oppose anything that puts women's lives ahead of abortion profits."
Since the launching of the Silent No More Awareness Campaign in 2003, 2,326 women and men have shared their testimonies publicly at over 200 gatherings in 44 states and six countries where more than 15,000 spectators have heard the truth about abortion's negative aftereffects. More than 4,100 people are registered to be Silent No More. Raising awareness about the hurtful aftermath of abortion and the help that is available to cope with the pain are two of the Campaign's goals.
