Hi Tom! Cheesy
I think I read that you were in Okla! My dad was at Ft. Sill, and we lived in Lawton...also Blackwell for a time! Experienced a terrible tornado in Blackwell, in the 50's sometime....It was REALLY scary! My mom and I vowed to never live there again...we moved within a month! Dad followed later!

Welcome, from a fellow Dusty! Its 24 degrees here in Michigan, with a wind chill even lower...I'm not even wearing a coat, 'cause that's WARM for us!  Grin

Oklahoma Howdy to Countrycat,

Lawton/Ft. Sill is my home. I was born and raised here, so I think that I'm here for the duration. Cheesy  I've lived through several tornadoes and know what you mean about them being scary. However, I prefer them to hurricanes and earthquakes. Besides that, I don't have to worry about falling off in the ocean here in Oklahoma.   Grin  And, if you are tired of the dust bunnies, just open the windows here is Oklahoma and the Oklahoma winds will take care of the problem with no extra charge.  Grin

In Christ,
Tom

well, Tom, the advantage to hurricanes is we have several days warning!! Our tornado in Blackwell struck with a 5 minute warning siren! It was my 12th birthday, and a bunch of us kids were outside having a party. I remember large hailstones and seeing a whiteish funnel...then we were scurried into the storm cellar. When it passed, yes sounded like a freight train, we went upstairs and looked our the door////which was gone! There was no house or tree from our sidewalk north and west!!! It was a really nice neighborhood! It took 40 blocks into oblivion! I remember seeing people walking up out of the ground, from storm cellars, to no house!!! It REALLY impacted me. To this day I fear wind!Plus, I sat on a scorpion in Lawton!!! GRRRR!!!! Huh

Oklahoma Howdy to Countrycat,

Cheesy  I guess there is positives and negatives to everything. You sat on a scorpion in Oklahoma, but what about the alligators in Florida?   Cheesy

To each his own preferences.

I have yet to find a "gator" in my bed!! Could happen I suppose! HaHa~~ Grin Well, we bloom where we are planted, in my case I have bloomed many places....Oklahoma is a lovely, and historic state! My grandmother, on my dad's side, was in the Great Okla Land Rush!! She was about 5 years old, I think! My dad was born in Enid, and lived in Enid, Ponca City, Blackwell and Lawton ( Ft. Sill) His brother was a sheriff for years, Jesse Northcutt. My dad LOVED Oklahoma. He married my mom in upstate N.Y., and always wanted to move back...we tried...mom said "NO WAY" after the tornado!
Bless you,
Cathe
