Campus Brownshirts at Emory Shut Down Islam Debate...

Protests End Horowitz’s Speech Early at Emory

A boisterous disruption from protesters forced conservative writer David Horowitz CC ’59 offstage within 30 minutes of his Islamo-fascism Awareness Week lecture at Emory University Wednesday evening, according to press reports.

More than 300 audience members attended Horowitz’s speech, which was tagged as an opportunity for the conservative pundit to discuss and denounce radical Islamic culture and government. He will speak at Columbia Friday evening.

“I’ve spoken at Emory University several times and I’ve never seen it this bad,” Horowitz said in reaction to the taunting crowd, according to reports. “This is exactly what the fascists did in Germany in the 1930s.”

“Heil Hitler,” protesters responded to Horowitz’s introduction.

Police officers removed Horowitz from the stage after unsuccessful attempts at subduing the crowd, reports said.

Horowitz was invited by the Emory University Chapter of the College Republicans, who criticized the hecklers for their behavior.

“This is a poor reflection on Emory, and we are embarrassed by the actions of so many in the campus community,” College Republicans President Ben Clark said in a press release.

The over 300 audience members included professors, Atlanta natives, and Emory students from groups such as Amnesty International, Students for Justice in Palestine, and the Muslim Student Association.

An organization created in opposition to Islamo-fascism Awareness Week, National Project to Defend Dissent & Critical Thinking in America, was represented among the protesters, dressed in Guantanamo Bay orange attire.

Young Democrats of Emory chose not to protest Horowitz. “It would be playing into his hand,” Emory Young Democrat Allison Filan told reporters. “Respect for protests is a lot more effective.”

This is getting serious. The fascists in Germany in the 1930's soon turned to violence against those that that disagreed with them. It is not far from that right now.

I agree!  It is getting serious.  No respect and no tolerance for another's views and opinions unless it's the wrong view and opinion (theirs), and showing open aggression.  The "old" folks used to say "What's the world coming to?" And now we're saying it.  Only we KNOW what it's coming to.  We just don't know how soon.
