Report card slams Huckabee on illegal alien issue

An English language advocate says former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is worse than his GOP opponent Rudy Giuliani when it comes to the issue of illegal immigration. Huckabee even labeled an effort to crack down on illegal aliens in Arkansas as "inflammatory and race-baiting."

Jim Boulet, executive director of English First, recently released his report cards for the presidential hopefuls of both parties. While Boulet says Senator Hillary Clinton (D-New York) and other Democrats not surprisingly received an "F," he is more concerned about Huckabee -- who once challenged the Christian values of the sponsor of an enforcement bill presented to the Arkansas Legislature.

"When you call someone a racist, what you're saying is, don't listen to that bad man -- you're not engaging the argument, and the argument is there," he emphasizes. "I don't see anywhere in the Bible where it says the way God wants us to help the poor is to lobby for the government to spend money on them," says Boulet.

And while Boulet acknowledges that Huckabee is a long shot to get the GOP nomination, he believes the former governor is a favorite for the number-two job. "Mike Huckabee could very easily be the vice-presidential nominee. He is actually worse than Giuliani on illegal immigration," he points out.

Boulet says Huckabee has "swallowed the Kool-Aid completely" when it comes to illegal immigration.

The more I read about Mike Huckabee when it comes to the issue of illegal immigration, the more I like him for President. Cheesy

Immigration

    * My number one priority is to secure America's border.
    * We have to know who is coming into our country, where they are going, and why they are here. We need a fence along our border with Mexico, electronic in some places, and more highly-trained border agents.
    * Those who are caught trying to enter illegally must be detained, processed, and deported.
    * Illegal immigrants already living among us who commit crimes must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and incarcerated or deported.

I opposed the amnesty bill that was defeated by the Senate in June. I support the $3 billion that Congress recently appropriated for border security. These funds will be used to train and deploy 23,000 more agents, add four drone airplanes, build 700 miles of fence and 300 miles of vehicle barriers, and erect 105 radar and camera towers. They will be used to end "catch and release" by providing money to "catch and detain" those caught entering illegally and to crack down on those who enter legally, but overstay their visas. These border security provisions will stem the tide of illegals, which is what we must do before we can turn the tide and deal with those who are already here. Before you fix the damage in your house caused by a leaking roof, you stop the leak, which is what this legislation will do.

My number one priority is to have a secure border. Right now, we have too many people entering the country illegally, and this must stop. We can't turn the tide until we stem the tide. We need to know who is coming into our country, where they are going, and why they are here. We need to create a process to allow people to come here to do the jobs - plucking chickens, tarring roofs, picking fruits - that are going unfilled by our citizens. They must have a tamper-proof, scannable I. D. with a finger or retinal scan, so that their employers know they belong here.

Besides stopping terrorists, we must weed out those with a criminal background or a communicable disease. We have to build a fence along our border with Mexico, parts of which will be electronic. We need more well-trained border agents and cooperation agreements with local and state law enforcement officials, so that we have a clear and consistent approach by all jurisdictions.

Those who are caught trying to enter illegally must be detained, processed, and deported. Illegal immigrants who are already living among us and commit crimes must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and incarcerated or deported.

I like him and would love to see him as a front runner.  And if he cannot make it there, then a good VP with a good shot at the big office in the future.

I think he is truly on track when it comes to immigration as well.  I think the report is skewed to the extreme side of things when it comes to immigration.

I know if it came down to it, Huck would get my vote.

Huckabee warns fight with terror won't end in draw
'This is a war someone will win and someone will lose'

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, a candidate for the GOP nomination for president, is warning that the war on terror will not end in a draw.

"There's no peaceful co-existence, there's no accommodation, there's no naïve nonsense that if we leave them alone they leave us alone. This is a war someone will win and someone will lose," he told WND during an exclusive one-on-one interview.

"Whoever perseveres and whoever has the strongest will, will in fact win and that's why we can't give up," he said.

He was responding to WND's question about the likelihood of another terrorist attack similar to 9/11 on U.S. soil.

"There's almost an inevitability, not just a possibility," he said. "It will happen again. And it'll happen because we face an enemy that is not a nation-state that can be contained within borders and boundaries, because their war is not about borders and boundaries.

"Islamofascism is rooted in a theocratic Islamic jihadism that seeks to destroy and annihilate every last one of us. It wants to establish a complete Islamic theocracy across the world and for that to happen it means our culture has to be completely snuffed out," he said.

That is one of the reasons the U.S. needs to work on some internal issues, to have economic and military strength to wage such a war. "If we don't have a healthy, strong and vibrant nation, we're not going to have even enough economic and military strength to fight that war," he said.

Huckabee, who once was honored by Time magazine as one of its five best governors in America, has visited dozens of states to campaign for his causes so far. He hails from Hope, Ark., served in the Arkansas governor's office from 1996-2007, and has written, "From Hope to Higher Ground: 12 STOPS to Restoring America's Greatness" about his ideas.

He was elected lieutenant governor in 1993 in a special election and elected to a full four-year term in that office in 1994. Only the fourth Republican to be elected to statewide office in Arkansas since Reconstruction, he moved into the statehouse in a special election in 1996.

He's also served as president of the Arkansas Baptist State Convention, and led growing congregations in Pine Bluff and Texarkana. The former governor also plays bass guitar with the rock-n-roll band Capitol Offense, which has opened for artists such as Willie Nelson and the Charlie Daniels Band.

On other issues, he says he's opposed to amnesty for illegal aliens but doesn't want a system in the United States where children are punished for the offenses of their parents.

"I believed then and still believe now that one of the traditions in this country that is very strong is that you punish people who break the law but you don't punish the children of those who break the law for something they can't help," he told WND.

He said he "adamantly" opposes same-sex marriage or civil unions, and during his first 100 days in office would work to restore unity in America.

"I'm convinced that this polarized and divided nation of ours is going to be unable to solve the really big problems we face. We face a huge problem with the threat of Islamofascism. We face the big problem of a tax system that is crippling our economy, driving jobs and money off our shores and into the hands of people in other countries and cultures. We still have a cultural war, where we have disregarded the value and worth of human life, and of marriage, and the institutions that make us a strong country. We've got to become energy independent," he said.

He also is convinced life begins at conception, and worked on a state constitutional amendment in Arkansas toward that end.

"I believe that we should protect human life, the foundation of our civilization. It defines us as much as anything does, as to how we treat and how we even view another human life, as to whether it has intrinsic value or worth or whether it does not," Huckabee said.

He also opposes international judicial jurisdiction over the United States and believes that judges who cite international law in their U.S. court opinions should be impeached.
