Groups clash outside church offering illegal immigrant sanctuary

Activists on both sides of the illegal immigration debate have faced off outside a church where an illegal immigrant is being sheltered with her U.S.-born infant son.

One pro-immigrant advocate was injured with a chemical spray during Sunday's confrontation at the United Church of Christ in Simi Valley, California, and police were investigating allegations that an opposing protester was responsible.

Members of the anti-illegal immigration group Save Our State, which organized the rally that drew about 120 protesters and counter-protesters, said they had hoped to make a citizen's arrest
of the woman, who has been living in the church's former parsonage as part of the New Sanctuary Movement, which arranges church accommodations for illegal immigrants in the U.S.

Quite honestly I would have to say that the church is in the wrong here.  I believe in sanctuary in the sense that if someone is fearful for their life or similar situations they should feel safe in going to a church and seeking help.

However the church has responsibilities as well.  It would not be unheard of to limit sanctuary to the person only until proper authorities come and that person is properly handled and deported.  A church is not meant to be a bypass for the laws of the land.  And we are to follow the laws of the land unless they come in direct conflict with the word of God...and the Bible recognizes that there are nations and borders.  But it is silent when it comes to the regulation of the borders which means God leaves the regulations of the borders up to the nation of those borders.

I am unlike most fathers.  What I would like my children to have more of is crowns to lay at Jesus feet.
