New group spends $15M to support war effort
A new organization has launched a media and grassroots campaign to counter the anti-war agenda of left-wing groups like MoveOn.org.
The group, called FreedomsWatch.org, wants to ensure that Congress continues to fully fund the troops with victory in the war on terror as the ultimate goal. So far, Freedoms Watch has spent $15 million on radio and television ads as well as grassroots activities.
Bradley A. Blakeman, president of the organization, says that their campaign goes beyond MoveOn.org. "It's a response not only to MoveOn.org, but the other entities out there that have a defeatist message -- and surrender is not an option to Freedoms Watch," he says. "We believe that victory is obtainable and we must support our troops and this is bigger than the war in Iraq."
Blakeman believes, in light of the recent testimony by General David Petreaus, that the American people know that the U.S. must stay the course. "I think now the American people appreciate our military and what they're doing and what they're trying to accomplish," he states. "And they realize that war is tough sometimes, many times unpredictable. But is the risk worth the reward? I think the American people say yes it is."
According to Blakeman, FreedomsWatch.org is committed to spending whatever it takes to counter the anti-war defeatists.
