Bethlehem – Ma'an – Hamas and Fatah both welcomed on Friday the Yemeni president, Ali Abdallah Saleh's initiative to act as mediator in the current political crisis.

Fatah spokesman, Ahmad Abed Al Rahman, welcomed the initiative but said the condition for any dialogue with Hamas was that negotiations should include all factions.

Khalid Mash'al, head of Hamas' political bureau also welcomed the Yemeni president's initiative.

According to a Yemeni News Agency the initiative rests on the basis of negotiations between Fatah and Hamas according to the Cairo agreement of 2005 and the Mecca agreement of 2007, which resulted in various internal agreements between Hamas and Fatah on a number of issues, including security.
