Children told to copy lines from Muslim Call To Prayer - to practise their handwriting
Last updated at 11:40am on 6th August 2007

Junior schoolchildren were told to copy lines of a Muslim prayer - for handwriting practice.

The Call To Prayer copied by ten-year-olds at Newlands Primary School in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, included the lines "Allah is the greatest" and "there is no god but Allah".

Angry parent Hayley Clayton told the Sun: "The explanation was that the children were learning about Islam in RE.

"But this was like taking an oath. A Muslim child would never be asked to write a Bible passage."

Her stepson Billy Darbyshire was one of the classmates told by his teacher, deputy head Helen Green, to copy the prayer. "Why didn't she choose a passage from a normal story book to teach handwriting?"

When she pointed out that three of the 7/7 suicide bombers came from Leeds just 15 miles away, Mrs Green acknowleged that it was a "sensitive issue".

"If it's sensitive, why choose that prayer?" she asked.

Billy's dad Martin said there were no Muslims in the class. "I'm not religious but it offended me.

"It must have been worse for children whose parents do have different beliefs."

Wakefield Council officials said they believed the prayer had been written for a Religious Education lesson.

UK parents don't want Allah to teach their kids handwriting!

By ANI
Monday August 6, 02:23 PM

London, Aug.6 (ANI): British parents in West Yorkshire have expressed anger at a teacher for telling ten-year-olds to copy the Muslim prayer -- "There is no God but Allah".

Helen Green, the teacher in question, is said to have picked the "Azaan" for handwriting practice, reports The Sun.

It includes the lines "Allah is the greatest" and "I bear witness that there is no God but Allah".

Hayley Clayton, the stepmother of a student at the Newlands Primary School in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, said she felt her child was taking an oath, rather than improving his handwriting skills.

Would a Muslim child be asked to write a passage from the Bible? she asked.

Green could have chosen a passage from a normal story book, she added.

Hayley, 23, said Mrs Green, the deputy head of the school, had acknowledged it was a "sensitive issue" because three of the 7/7 suicide bombers came from Leeds, 15 miles away.

Good grief! What is going on over there?

I am so surprised that there hasn't been more of an outcry in Great Britain over the rising influence of Islam.  I have noticed that this rising influence is not dramatic, but incremental, teeny tiny bit by teeny tiny bit.

This reminds me of the frog in the pot theory. Gradually warm the water and the frog will stay in to the boiling point.
