Anybody currently reading Purpose Driven Life?  I am on Chapter 9 and would love to hear what others have received from this book.

I don't know about it, but it's a very interesting title. What's it about? Maybe I'll get a copy.

If you look under Favorite Books, post #17, under the Books forum, here, I see Diego mentions it there--by a Rick Warren.

I think he's a pastor at a "Saddleback" church in SoCal??

Seems this book, or perhaps another by the same author, is really being widely read??

Actually, now that I'm looking, there's also a whole separate thread, just for this book, by Terri, "Great Book," Purpose Driven Life", by Rick Warren", begun August 21, under "Books", here.

It's a very intersting book.  It's a devotional.  You are meant to read on chapter (only 3-4 pages) each day and meditate on that idea.  I enjoyed it and would recommend it if you do not have a current devotional.  It's only 40 days, and I would recommend you do not read it all at once.  You are not meant to.  You are to take one idea and meditate on it, then the next day ... the next.  It is not meant to be read like a novel.

Anyways ... enjoy.

Peace.

Great! I'll have to give it a try. I'm about to gear up for another prayer campaign and I bet this will help!

Hmm, thanks Romans.  That gives me an idea of what it's about.

I'm reading through II Kings right now--lots of blood and gore.  I'm at the passage where Jehoash collects funds for repairs to the temple.  Interestingly, a discovery announced last Feb'y of "the Johoash Tablet"--stone, of this passage.

Plus readings in the NT, daily.

I've got a million other books to read too.  And a bunch on my shelf I've never read.

I've got the hard bound edition of Schaeffer's "How Should We Then Live", sitting there for 25 years, and still haven't read it yet.

I spend too much time at CU.  Embarrassed

I am currently on lesson #9: What makes God smile?  In this chapter I learned that God enjoys when we obey him wholeheartedly, even when we don't understand the command.  Often understanding comes after we obey. Delayed obedience is disobedience.

God smiles when we use the abilities he has given us.  This thought inspires me to write songs, poetry, essays, etc.  I want God to be pleased that I am using what he gave me for
his glory.

It's so true. God brings us to the point where we either walk by faith, or we walk by sight. By what He tells us to do, or what makes sense to us. And then He raises the bar and asks us the same question.

Symphony, CU is where you disseminate all you know from the books you have read! We like it.

FABULOUS book!  Absolutley wonderful.  My post is also under The Purpose Driven Life post in books, i think.  This book literally gave me meaning and hope in my life, granting me a real miracle.  I think I'm on 16.  The author is wonderful (rick Warren) and makes God feel close and warm, like the father we all picture him to be.  Tell me what you think of it!!!
