An epal just told me she ordered a rosary to hold to give her comfort.  She wants to do this while praying (she is not Catholic).  I did write back that instead of doing this, she should read the Bible and pray to God, that God knows her heart and He will help her, etc..... also she should try reading the Psalms for comfort, which have comforted many people.

Now she wrote back "what's wrong with holding the rosary and some of them are so beautiful".  When I answer I'll tell her we have to be careful not to put objects in the place of God....God being a spirit, He does not want us to fall into idolizing objects.  Also, God told us not to make "graven images".

This lady was never taken to church in her youth and still does not go to church.  She admits she is confused about "religion" but says she believes in Billy Graham's teachings.  I have explained to her that she should start by reading the Gospels, because our faith is based on Christ being our Savior...and in the Gospels we read Christ's words and about His deeds while He was on the earth.  (She said she would start reading the Old Testament at the beginning instead.)

Anyhow, just wanted to get a little input from you all.  Also, please pray for her.

Yes, I will gladly join you in prayer for this person.

You are totally correct, sister. True comfort cannot be found in material objects. Our comfort is in and through Jesus Christ not rosary beads or any other such object.

Rom 15:4  For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that we through patience and comfort of the scriptures might have hope.

2Co 1:3  Blessed be God, even the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort;
2Co 1:4  Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble, by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

While it is commendable that she wants to start reading the scriptures from the very beginning if it is comfort that she seeks from them then she should turn to the book of Psalms and to the Gospels.

Please do not get mad at me, but I have to tell you, after accepting the Lord and I am a new christian, I found out what I thought was religious and sacred, to be idol worship. I prayed to different saints, my rosary, and I even went to see the pope as if I could not talk to God myself and found out I could through Jesus Christ and that I was putting my trust in man and in what man has invented to be more i guess you can say more spiritual than the other churches. I think with how the world is today, it is going to be hard not for the churches, but for the christians who stand for Christ because the church is becoming social clubs with great intertainment and there is noone shouting to repent and when that happens, the real christians will suffer for Jesus Christ. I really believe this and what God wants is our trust even in the times that are coming.

No, we aren't mad at you!  Smiley  No matter what happens in this world, we must keep trusting the Lord to get us through it.  He promised to be with us until the end.

I did write my epal back but haven't received a return reply yet.  So will just wait and see what happens.

I finally received a reply from her today.  She said she does not want to write to me anymore.  I did tell her in reply, if she ever feels the need to write, to feel free to do so.

I'm sorry to hear that, sister.

My prayers go out for her.
