Read: Luke 24: 13-35 Open Vision “The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints…”
Eph.1:18
The two disciples of Jesus on the way to Emmaus were disheartened and very sad at His death. Jesus appeared to them and conversed with them on the way. However, the disciples could not recognize it was Jesus, but as He began to expound the scriptures to them concerning himself their hearts began to burn within them. It was only later that they fully saw who He was and understood indeed He was alive.
Jesus needed to open their eyes of understanding to show them what was happening. It was more than they could ‘see’. Jesus rebuked these two disciples for their unbelief of the Word of God.
“Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken” Luke 24:25. They had lost hope because of what they had seen and heard but had not remembered and kept the Word of God which had been told them concerning these things. Jesus had to return their focus to the Word of God. Prior his death Jesus said,
“Behold, we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be betrayed unto the chief priests and unto the scribes, and they shall condemn him to death, And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.” Matt. 20:18-19 There should have been a joyful expectation that third day had they heard and remembered what Jesus had told them.
It is the Word of God which remains constant , it is the Word of God that will not return to God void but accomplish everything it was sent forth to do .It is the Word of God which will be fulfilled. Anytime we shift our focus from the Word of God to what we see, feel or hear we are drawn in doubt and unbelief.
“God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? Numbers 23:19.Gods promises to us are all ‘yes’ and ‘amen’ He keeps all His promises never fails in them.
What does Gods word say about your situation? Remember it and stand on the Word it will come to pass.
“He (Abraham)staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God;” Rom 4:20 .If we have built our hopes on anything other than the word of God we will also fall miserably when faced with the storms of life. Jesus explained this in the parable of the wise man who built his house on the rock versus the foolish one who built on the sand. The storms will come but if your life is rooted on the rock Jesus Christ, the Word, you will not be shaken.
The Word of God will give you focus and direction when you face the challenges of life. Time and time again the importance of the Word of God is emphasized in scripture. Meditate on the Word until it becomes part of you so when things happen which appear contrary to the Word you will still stand and confess the truth and gain your victory over unbelief. With the help of the Holy Spirit our eyes of understanding can be opened so that we will see things the way God sees them.
“Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.”
Matt.24:35
