Sen. Cornyn: immigration bill would give amnesty to terrorists, convicted criminals

Texas Senator John Cornyn says the so-called “comprehensive immigration reform” bill being debated in the Senate contains a loophole that would permit convicted terrorists and other violent criminals who have yet to be deported from the U-S to obtain legal status.

Senator Cornyn says the immigration bill retains a loophole under current law that would for example allow an illegal alien repeatedly convicted of drunk driving to remain in the U-S and get legal status such as “Z status” or a green card.
So Cornyn has introduced an amendment to the bill that would bar terrorists, violent gang members, sex offenders, alien smugglers who use firearms, and repeat drunk drivers from being awarded any immigration benefits.
The Texas Republican dismisses critics who claim the amendment would hinder due process laws and certain legal protections.

Senator Cornyn says Americans are “profoundly skeptical” of the federal government’s willingness to create an immigration system that actually works because the government “has been long on promises and short on delivery.”

The more I hear of this travesty of an immigration bill, the more I shake my head in disbelief.

Giving amnesty to these people who have broken our laws, is plumb crazy. I don't think this immigration bill is going solve anything other than make the people of the United States, really mad over the government's  sloppy handling of the whole affair.

One thing is certain.  If they refuse to pass this amendment, there will be no doubt that they have no concern for the legal citizens of this country.  I would like to hear the justification for allowing criminals to become citizens.  They certainly won't be able to use the same lie....'they are doing what the Americans won't do.'  I do believe we have enough criminals without importing them.
