Is it considered adultery or at least sexually immoral if a married person is secretly seeing someone outside the marriage.  Acts may involve kissing, making out, excessive phone calls and emails.

Hi ort,

Welcome to Christians Unite.

There is a difference between the law and sinning in this matter.

Legally speaking there is a difference in what constitutes adultery or sexual impropriety and that varies from state to state.

Here is what Jesus said about adultery:

Mat 5:27  Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
Mat 5:28  But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.

When Jesus spoke of "old time" it was the consummation of the act with a person that was not the husband or wife, the legality of it. To lust after another person not your spouse He is talking about the condition of one's heart not the written law.

I am very interested in how a situation like this would pertain to an exception that Jesus mentioned regarding divorce.

Matthew 5:32 (Amplified Bible)

But I tell you, Whoever dismisses and repudiates and divorces his wife, except on the grounds of unfaithfulness (sexual immorality), causes her to commit adultery, and whoever marries a woman who has been divorced commits adultery.(A)

Jesus told us it was because of the hardening of ones heart that divorce was permitted according to the laws set forth my Moses.

This does not mean that we should jump at the choice of divorce as a first response. If all choices have been used and the individual insists on continuing in doing such then divorce might be the only answer. Those choices spoken of are in the spouse confronting that individual in the matter, attempts to reconcile the marriage which includes good Christian counselling. I strongly recommend that you yourself get good one on one Christian counselling in this matter in any regards as it is impossible for one to fully understand the circumstances in which you are in and better advice may be obtained that way.

Hi Ort..

Yes..it is a sin for when it is done in secret then the ones involved know it is wrong..especially those who call themselves christian..Ort..sin has become so comfortable because of compromise and people involved in secret sin always look for justification that never comes from God...
