Waco pro-lifers assaulted during monthly demonstration

The leader of a Texas pro-life group says an attack on a peaceful group of pro-life activists in Waco this past Sunday highlights the lengths that pro-abortion supporters will go to stop the pro-life message from being heard.

Life Chain is a monthly demonstration held by members of the pro-life community in Waco. The event is held on public property on the first Sunday of each month, and brings those who believe in the sanctity of human life together to pray for the unborn.

But in the closing moments of the event this past Sunday, the group was attacked by a group of people in an SUV, who sprayed them with black ink shot from large water guns. John Pisciotta, director of pro-life Waco, says opponents of the pro-life message have sunk to a new low.

"It's very revealing about the other side, which is supposed to be all about 'choice' and 'acceptance' -- but there's certain views that are not accepted," says the pro-life leader.

"But it's all to the good," he continues. "I mean, we're out there raising the issue, and very often people who will go to such an extent, where you get a reaction from people, typically [they] have been involved in abortion. [Maybe] they've had an abortion, their girlfriend had an abortion, they took their friend to have an abortion -- and it's reminding them of something they don't want to be reminded of."

Pisciotta praises the aggressiveness with which the authorities are pursuing the case. A vehicle description and license plate number were given to authorities by some of the protesters, and the Waco police have already located the attackers. KXXV-TV in Waco identifies them as a 20-year-old woman and her 23-year-old boyfriend, and quotes a police department spokesman who says simple assault charges -- a misdemeanor -- will be filed soon.
