Noted author helps Christians learn biblical principles of stewardship
Author and ministry founder Randy Alcorn is encouraging Christians to focus on what God's Word says about true riches. Through his Oregon-based organization, Eternal Perspective Ministries, he teaches Christians how to invest in God's Kingdom.
Although Alcorn has written best-selling books and produced many teaching resources, he receives no royalties from his writing. Instead, all of the money goes to various ministries. In fact, Alcorn says he founded Eternal Perspective Ministries to teach Christians about true stewardship.
God's Word is much different from the popular "prosperity teaching," the author contends. That kind of teaching, he says, is "trying to find the payoffs here and now of the life of following Christ; and God does give us a certain peace and contentment that comes in following Him and fellowshipping with Him here and now."
However, Alcorn asserts, "the ultimate promise of a world of justice -- and there is a promise of wealth and the enjoyment of wealth for the believer -- that's wealth of the world to come. That's the treasures that are laid up in heaven for us."
Alcorn co-pastored churches for 13 years before starting Eternal Perspective Ministries in 1990. Since then, he has written a number of books and resources dealing with the Bible's admonitions on wealth and stewardship.
"A hundred percent of the royalties are given to missions groups and Christian organizations," the ministry founder notes. "We have the privilege of investing millions of dollars in God's Kingdom, and we couldn't be happier doing it that way," he says.
Scripture advises Christians to live in light of eternity, Alcorn adds. That is why he says his ministry seeks to equip believers with teaching on how to maintain an "eternal perspective" with regard to their life, their wealth, and their priorities.
