Solana talks to Larijani over Iran's nuclear issue
Thu, 05 Apr 2007 22:51:33
An informed source with Iran's Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) has confirmed that EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana has had a phone talk with Iran's top nuclear negotiator Ali Larijani on Wednesday.

In his talks with Larijani, Solana called for resuming negotiations with Iran over its nuclear issue, the source added.

Ali Larijani, Iran's Supreme National Security Council Secretary, has told Solana that the Islamic Republic will not accept any preconditions including a time-out or a suspension of nuclear activities to resume negotiations.

The issue of suspension cannot be set as a precondition or taken as the result of the talks, because it is irrational, the source reported Larijani as saying.

"The Islamic Republic is ready to hold talks over non-deviation from peaceful nuclear activities but not about the Iranians' nuclear rights," Larijani was quoted as saying.
