Brothers and Sisters,

I really thought that I wrote something about this one once, but I guess that I didn't. I've been using Scrapbook for a long time, and it's just gotten better and better. In fact, there's been some huge improvements to it just recently. Whatever you can see on the Internet can be stored and categorized quickly. You just highlight the portion of the screen that you want to save, name it, and capture it.

It's great for portions of articles, research by various subjects, Bible studies, and you name it. It's really like a text and graphics database that can be categorized, sorted, and searched. You can search in many different ways, including by a single word, a subject, by category, or by any way that a database can be used. The difference is that Scrapbook is kept in exactly the same way that you saw it. You can also export the portion you want in HTML. It's really amazing how well it works, and it's completely FREE.

Whatever kind of storage and retrieval system you can think of for text and graphics in any format can be easily and quickly done. You can even store complete web sites with it, exactly like what you saw. So, you can set the number of levels deep that you want to go in the capture. Recent improvements include capturing the title seen at the top of your browser, the complete URL address, and even meta-data that is used by search engines for faster searches. I must also add that the search functions with it are wonderful and extremely fast. It has many kinds of settings to display stored information. I have mine set to simply open a new window in Firefox, and it shows an exact duplicate of what you saw when you originally captured it.

Your imagination is your only limit in terms of how ScrapBook can be used for research, collecting, storing, categorizing, searching, and retrieval. It's really like a giant file cabinet, but the folders are much easier and faster to find by subject matter, date, or you name it. I set mine for full-text search so I can search for a single word, phrase, or name and get a return on everything I have. Let's say that it's Bible studies, and I want to search by book, topic, character, etc. It's all very easy and quick. My Scrapbook database has gotten pretty large, but completed searches still only take seconds. I highly recommend Scrapbook for anyone who wants to store things on their computer in a very intelligent way and quickly find something you have stored. If you can't find it, it really isn't worth much, but Scrapbook solves this problem completely. I think that I've used it since it first came out, and I've never had a problem of any kind. All you really have to worry about from time to time is hitting the sort command and letting it put everything in order for quick searches. One last thing - you can also back it up on a regular basis in case there is ever a problem.

Try it - you'll like it.

Love In Christ,
Tom

I use it too and it is a nice program.

The only improvement I can see it needing is to put in the URL that the information came from, as when doing research it is necessary to document the source at times. As it is now, if you wait a few days before you use what you saved with it you have forgotten where it came from!

Hello Brother Rhys,

If you go to the home page of the author for ScrapBook, what you want is fixed with a tiny add-on called ScrapBook Copy Page Info. You might also be interested in another tiny add-on for ScrapBook called ScrapBook Backup Helper. You can read more about these and get them at:

http://amb.vis.ne.jp/mozilla/scrapbook/addons.php

They are both completely free with no strings attached, and they work perfectly with ScrapBook. I really don't have any idea why these aren't incorporated with ScrapBook or why they aren't listed on the Mozilla Add-On site as excellent companion programs for ScrapBook. Regardless, I have them, and they work perfectly.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Galatians 2:20 NASB  "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.
