Maryland schools chief rejects parental concerns on sex ed

The chief of Maryland’s public school system has rejected a request from three parents’ groups to block implementation of a new sex education program for eighth- and tenth-grade students in Montgomery County schools. The Montgomery schools comprise the state’s largest school district.

Opponents of the new program say it promotes homosexuality, bisexuality and transgenderism as normal, healthy lifestyles, but the parents’ concerns were dismissed by Nancy S. Grasmick, state superintendent of schools.

Attorney Mat Staver, founder and chairman of the Florida-based Liberty Counsel, persuaded a federal judge to block the district’s prior sex ed program because it denigrated Christian views on homosexuality. He says the new program is better, but still flawed.

Staver is again involved in the debate, trying to mediate a resolution to the problem without litigation. However, he is prepared to take the school system to court again if necessary.

“We’re now monitoring whether or not this new curriculum should also be sued like the first curriculum,” Staver says, “and so we may end up representing these parents’ groups again. But first, before that happens, we’re working on exhausting any other administrative remedies through the State Board of Education. That process is not fully complete yet.”

The three parents’ groups are awaiting action by the State Board on their request to dump the sex ed curriculum. Staver believes the current curriculum is “very damaging” to students because it denies the existence of former homosexuals. He also indicated that it teaches in one place that homosexuality is genetic and in another that it is caused by environmental factors.

“I think it is very inappropriate to suggest to these young people that they are trapped in a homosexual lifestyle forever and they can never be extricated from that lifestyle,” Staver says. “Neither science nor human experience supports that proposition.”

All of this is simply garbage and filth that has no place in a public school. I know that they must exhaust administrative remedies first, but the parents and legal counsel must simply put their foot down and say NO!

Many of the schools are already deficient in what they are supposed to be teaching our children. They should be teaching the basic subjects that children are not learning properly. They can throw out all of the perversion subjects and spend that time doing what is really needed. Our children don't need courses on how to be perverts, and the NO! LINE must be drawn. It is of ZERO CONCERN what gay, lesbian, and transgender folks want in the school curriculum. It will always be of ZERO CONCERN, and this should not be tolerated by parents in any form. The school systems simply need to understand one word, "NO!" If the school systems can't understand this one word, they need to look at ALMOST EMPTY SCHOOL BUILDINGS. As for me, if I have anything to say about it, my grandchildren will NOT be attending any classes like this - PERIOD - END OF STORY! I must add that my children already agree and will NOT permit this. This is NOT NEGOTIABLE at all - the answer is NO!

Amen, Brother. This sort of thing is becoming more and more prevalent in our public schools. It is no wonder that crime rates amongst school age children in public schools is on the increase and their grade levels are on the decrease. It is a proven fact that children that are homeschooled are gaining much higher results on test scores than those from public schools.
