It was when the Catholic Church declared it unnecessary that indulgences were needed to get into heaven...or something like that.

There are no Christian holidays. However we are to remember the Lord's death till He comes by partaking of communion.

Butterfly, I guess we wouldn't be celebrating it if Columbus hadn't discovered a place for us to have our freedom, so I vote for sharing the credit with him, too.
