One Nation Under God

"From Every Nation"

Then Peter began to speak: "I now realize how true it is that God does not show favoritism but accepts men from every nation who fear Him and do what is right". Acts 10:34-35

Let me tell you about Mahatma Gandhi. Gandhi is considered to be the father of his country, India. He has been revered for his doctrine of nonviolence to achieve political and social progress. Still, as Gandhi relates in his autobiography, there was a time when he was truly interested in the Bible. Deeply touched by the Gospels, he seriously considered becoming a Christian. He felt Christianity offered a real solution to the caste system that divided the people of India.

One Sunday, Gandhi went to a nearby church to attend services. He wanted to see the minister in order to ask for instruction in the way of salvation, as well as other doctrines. When he entered the sanctuary, the ushers decided he was "not one of them." They refused to give him a seat and suggested he go and worship with his own people. Gandhi left. He never came back.

Is Jesus truly a Savior for all people? Is His love really “one size fits all?” Some in the church still do not think so; they are wrong. Many outside the church are fond of saying that "Jesus is only for the rich, or those of a certain race or country." Jesus rejects such labeling. When the Christ walked this earth, He did not avoid the leper, the lost, or the lonely. He did not ignore the sad, the sorrowful, or the sinner. He did not disregard the depressed, the despondent, or the discouraged.

It was especially for those who were sick in their souls and sorrowful in their spirits that Jesus came. He said it Himself: “The Son of Man (Jesus) came to seek and to save what was lost” (Luke 19:10). Are you one of those lost? If you’re a sinner and you don’t know Jesus as your Savior, you are lost. But you are precisely the kind of person for whom Jesus was born, lived, suffered, died, and rose. He came to find you and then to bring you, found and forgiven, into His family of faith. Please don’t run from Him. Jesus is for you. Most Christians would welcome you as a brother and sister.

And to those who already know Jesus is for you, please share the Savior with those who are outside the faith looking in. I'm not asking if they are acceptable or "one of us." I'm only asking, "Do they need Jesus?" If so, invite them and tell them about a Savior who has come for them.

Amen.  Imagine the world today if Ghandi had actually accepted Christ.

I am like most fathers.  I, like most, want more for my children than I have.

I am unlike most fathers.  What I would like my children to have more of is crowns to lay at Jesus feet.
