Ellison to take oath on Thomas Jefferson's Quran
1st Muslim in Congress will swear in with copy owned by founding father

The first Muslim elected to the U.S. Congress, attacked for planning to use the Quran at his swearing-in instead of a Bible, will use a copy of the Muslim holy book once owned by Thomas Jefferson, an official said on Wednesday.

Representative-elect Keith Ellison, a Minnesota Democrat, requested the 18th century copy of the Quran for the unofficial part of his swearing in on Thursday, according to Mark Dimunation, chief of rare books and special collections at the Library of Congress in Washington.

Ellison, a Muslim convert who traces his U.S. ancestry to 1741, wanted a special copy of the book to use, Dimunation said, and approached the library for one.

The third U.S. president, serving from 1801 to 1809, Jefferson was a collector with wide-ranging interests. His 6,000-volume library, the largest in North America at the time, became the basis for the Library of Congress.

Unofficial ceremony
Ellison, elected in November, initially came under attack in the blogosphere and by at least one conservative radio commentator after he said he would use the Quran in his unofficial ceremony.

Members are sworn in to the U.S. House of Representatives as a group with no Bibles or other books involved; but in a country where three out of every four people consider themselves Christians, the Bible has traditionally been used in ensuing unofficial ceremonies.

These unofficial events among other things provide each member with a photo opportunity for themselves and their constituents.

Rep. Virgil Goode, a Virginia Republican who represents the area where Jefferson lived, was one of those who criticized Ellison for wanting to use the Quran, calling for strict immigration policies specially crafted to keep Muslims out of the United States.

I figured this one was going to come out. The PRNewswire-USNewswire posted an article by the Muslim American Society on Dec 21st that suggested just this.

"I hope when Congressman-elect Ellison takes his oath, he not only takes it on the Quran, but requests to use the one owned by Thomas Jefferson; one of America's founding fathers, kept at the National Archives."

This is somehow supposed to make it a patriotic move. They tend to overlook the reason that Thomas Jefferson had a copy of the Koran. At the time he purchased this book he was studying both law and religion. Thomas Jefferson also had to deal with the Barbary Pirates. A group of ruthless muslims that had specifically stated that all nations who should not have acknowledged their [islams] authority were sinners, that it was their right and duty to make war upon them wherever they could be found, and to make slaves of all they could take as prisoners and were to kill the rest.

How could it not. I don't feel good about this at all. It makes me a little nervous.

I can understand that. It appears to me as the first move in many that will eventually allow islam to take over the U.S. as it has and is doing to so many other nations.

Thank God though that we have Jesus and no matter what may come we have Him on our side.

Do you think that this is a glimpse into how the one world religion will come about? In my opinion, we're seeing more & more of the "Last Days" prophecy coming true.

I could be wrong but that is the way I see it. There is only one way that I can see a one world religion that does not have God's hand in it and that is through brute force and deception. islam is the primary religion that can and will use such brute force and deception.
