Hi everyone.  My real name is Cindy and I'm the mom of 3 children.  Kasondra is 9, Jeremiah is 8, and Allison is 5.  My son is autistic and ADHD and I think Kasondra is ADHD as well.  Allison shows signs of Sensory Defensive Disorder and it's too soon to know for sure whether or not she has other issues as well.

I currently work for Wal~Mart on their ICS (Inventory Control Specialist) Team.  This does not mean that I support what Wal~Mart does nor will I take part in the Wal~Mart cheer.  I have worked for Wal~Mart for 3 years, but until recently it was because of medical issues, but now I'm free to change jobs if that is what I decide I want to do.  I'm thinking about seeing if the county will pay for me to go back to school to get a better paying job.

Thanks.

You know, my kids take a lot of my time and energy when I'm not at work, but they are blessings in hiding and are so worth everything.  They are all special in their own way, but my kids need extra TLC to learn how to cope with the issues that they have.  I'm not after an easy fix to a long term issue.  I'm not one to medicate my children just to make them easier to deal with........especially with knowing some of the things that I know concerning the medications that are used to treat children for ADHD.  I rather tough it out and help my kids learn ways to deal with their issues without the use of medications.  There are some cases where I can understand the child needing medication, but I don't believe that my kids are at the level where medication is needed.  However, it does take a willingness to work with the kids, a willingness to learn what I can about the issues that they deal with, a willingness to get involved, and being an advocate for my kids when it's needed.

I can highly respect what you are doing with your kids and the medicine. Too many parents want to take the easy way out when it isn't really neccessary causing more problems for them and their children.

I myself have a child that was diagnosed as retarded with a bunch of other medical issues. We were told she wouldn't make it past the 4th grade or 6th grade. The schools kept trying to hold her back. We decided to homeschool her. She is 22 now, graduated from high school and a very loving, proficient mother of a 3 yr old. Our youngest son was diagnosed as autistic and dylexic. They wanted to medicate him also and put him in special education. We homeschooled him as we did all of our children. He has graduated and at 18 yrs old was living on his own with a full time job making more than most others. He is 19 now with two beautiful twins.

My prayers go with you and your family.

Thanks for the prayers.

Hopefully my medical issues are resolved now.  The problems I was having have not returned since I underwent surgery this past spring.

I love the picture of Jesus praying in the garden of Getheseme (sp?).  I always have.

I sometimes find myself wishing that homeschooling my kids was an option for me, but I work full time to pay the bills.

Your right....people tend to under-estimate these kids.  Myself included, until my son taught me otherwise.  I too refuse to be told that my kids will only develope to a certain point and that they will never be able to do certain activities.  I don't believe that there is a limit as to what people can do if they just set their minds to follow their dreams.  I think that all too often, people just don't want to deal with these special people......sadly some churches included.  The kids and I have left a church because of how they would treat my son and I.

We now attend an awesome non-denominational church.  It's different and they sometimes speak in togues and dance, but the teachings go hand in hand with what the bible has to say.  Never before have I been this excited about what God and his will for my life.

Yes people are very human, even those in churches and unfortunately they soon forget that they all have their faults.

Hi again Cindy  Cheesy

My daughter was told that her little boy ADD and that she needed to put him on medication, she took him to a different doctor and found out that he was partially deaf. The deafness only worsened and he eventually had less than 30% hearing in one ear and less than 50% in the other. After having tubes put in his ears his hearing didn't improve much so she enrolled him in a school for partially deaf children, he learned to read lips, and he learned sign language. When he turned 6 he had surgery and even though his hearing is still not 100% he now wears hearing aids attends regular school, he can talk to me on the phone and not just that, he can still read lips, and he still knows sign language as well as he has almos 80% hearing in both ears now.  Cheesy Cheesy
He never did have ADD he was just slow learning because of the hearing problems.
