Christian loses job for pro-family group membership
Minneapolis police tell psychologist services no longer needed

Christian psychologist Michael Campion, who was suspended (and then cleared) by the Minneapolis Police Department after city officials learned that he was once a board member of a pro-family group, has lost his job with the Department.

Campion was told Tuesday that his contract work screening police officers would no longer be required. His case has attracted nationwide attention from Christians and civil liberties advocates who see his suspension as evidence of blatant anti-Christian discrimination.

After being reinstated following his widely reported suspension, Campion said he was scheduled to do a "big batch of testing" of Minneapolis police officers. Then, according to Campion, the Department did a 180-degree turn and called to tell him that he would not be doing the testing after all.

LifeSiteNews.com spoke with Matt Laibly a spokesman for the city of Minneapolis who admitted that Campion was initially suspended after city councilor Scott Benson asked for an inquiry into Campion's membership in Illinois Familyi Institute (IFI).  That suspension was lifted, says the city.  However Campion has now lost his job.

The city is attempting to make it look like the loss of Campion's job is not related to the incident.  Laibly told LifeSiteNews.com, that Campion is no longer suspended but the city "is using a different vendor for screenings." He added that the city is "working on a formal process for establishing a vendor and now putting together a request for proposals."

When LifeSiteNews.com asked for clarification on whether or not Campion lost his job based on the accusation of membership in the pro-family group, Laibly said he could not comment. He did say however that the "city has always prided itself on being fair and tolerant."

"Dr. Campion's right to freedom of association is being sacrificed on the altar of political correctness," said David Smith, Executive Director of Illinois Family Institute. "Does one have to embrace the homosexual activist and abortion causes to be able to exercise their First Amendment rights?

IFI Policy & Media Advisor Peter LaBarbera said the Campion situation shows that there "there is a zero sum game between homosexual activism and freedom for people of faith who oppose homosexual behavior. The liberal 'diversity' lobby is going after Mike because of his deeply-held religious and moral beliefs. In fact, no homosexual police officers have come forward with charges of bias.

"They want Mike out because he is a committed Christian who does not share their ideology," LaBarbera said. "How ironic that the forces of 'tolerance' are now leading a new assault on civil rights, this time against people of faith."

Last year, Campion was fired as a psychological screener for policemen and firefighters for the City of Springfield, Illinois, following a liberal newspaper's report of his ties to an "anti-choice and anti-gay" organization--Illinois Family Institute. Campion is now working with attorneys at the American Family Association to challenge his firing by the City of Springfield as discriminatory.

The Illinois Family Institute has asked supporters to call the City of Minneapolis and politely urge the city and its prospective Police Chief, Tim Dolan, to NOT discriminate against Dr. Campion based on his religious and moral convictions.  (phone no. (612)673- 2735)

They are probably trying to figure out how they can get their lawyers in there to help the city out and clear it's good name.  one that is soiled by that anti-choice, homo-phobic, Bible thumper.  (please read that as sarcastically Smiley  )

This is yet another sad example of how the moral fiber of society is NOT just unraveling, rather it is being destroyed. This is not an isolated example. I think that we would all be able to find examples like this near our own homes. It really pretty plain and simple: Christians are going to be persecuted. This does not mean that we should sit down and be quiet - just the opposite - STAND UP AND BE HEARD! We are NOT ashamed of the Things of the LORD!

AMEN

Paul would be turning over in his grave right now if he saw what society is like (I use Paul because we all knwo Jesus is not in the grave Wink  )

You don't like what a channel is putting on TV...pray for them.  You do not like what a government official is doing...pray for them.  You do not like what a radio station is playing...pray for them.

You don't like what a channel is putting on TV...send them a note saying so.  You do not like what a government official is doing...send them a note saying so.  You do not like what a radio station is playing...send them a a note saying so.

I would say this of any person really.  You do not have to be a Christian to voice your moral opinions to the media, officials, friends, strangers.  But we as Christians have often taken the "turn the other cheek" to an extreme and basically rolled over at any sign of persecution.  When someone calls us  Bible thumpers we have jus quietly accepted it and moved on.  When we should gladly say "You betcha I am! and I am glad to have my Bible and would be elated to be able to take an opportunity and share some of it with you"

Amen Brother Jerry!

I think that the time to worry for a Christian is when they aren't being called any names or being persecuted in some way. That would probably mean that the Christian was undercover or covert - in other words - not different from the world. So maybe we should smile and be happy when someone calls us names or persecutes us in some way because we did STAND UP for the things of the LORD.

The core of our lives should be JESUS CHRIST, and we should never be ashamed of that fact. "JESUS CHRIST" is the most hated name in the world by the devil and the forces of evil. WHY? - HE is the LIGHT - shines LIGHT in and on darkness - and that Precious NAME is the only way for mankind to be rescued from the curse of sin and death. Brothers and Sisters, this is the reason why the world can tolerate the name "GOD" much more than they can stand to hear the name "JESUS CHRIST". To the world "GOD" can mean many things, but "JESUS CHRIST" can mean only one thing that the devil hates - "The SAVIOUR - The MESSIAH - The KING OF KINGS - the LORD OF HOSTS - the GREAT I AM - the CHRIST - the ONE AND ONLY ALMIGHTY GOD". The NAME of JESUS CHRIST makes the devil tremble in fear - rightfully so.

Love In Christ,
Tom

Galatians 2:19-21 NASB  "For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live to God. "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. "I do not nullify the grace of God, for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly."
