Heavens to Merkatroid-everyone in my life is going on a health kick. So I'm going on one also. (I don't want to be the only person who isn't!) One exception-I'm not giving up my morning mug o' sludge. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I would like to say spend one day and "eat, drink, and be merry", but that would be bad advice. HeHe.
Actually, I am doing something like that also. Maybe it has to do with being 50, maybe not. But I am trying to 'clean up my act'. Eating more protien, veggies, etc. This is hard for a lifelong bachelor. Eating more protien to me means eating more tuna sandwiches, and peanut butter. But I too like my coffee, even if my chiropractor friend says it inhibits my nerve
something or others.
I was never a drinker, so no problem there. My drink of choice is a bottle of a cold coffee drink. Starbucks.
My best to you on your journey. Lets compare notes in a year and see how healthy we are.
God bless you.  Roy.

Brother Love, lol, that was wrong. still funny, though.  Grin

As for the sludge, don't give the sludge up! Grown ups NEED coffee! Something about the age of 13, it is like you just lose all your energy.

Drink, eat, and be awake! Grin

Hahahaa...my pop used to say that!!

Seriously though - the health kick....
do both of these, and you'll be on your way to better health in no time-
the hard advice: eat more vegtables
the easy advice: walk with a friend or family member for 1 hour 5 days a week.  It's good for the heart, the muscles, and your outlook on life.

The best advice is to keep things in perspective.  You might not follow a diet or a workout to the T, but any steps, regardless how small, are still progress in the right direction.

Freshly perked coffee.  If you drink w/in minutes, suppose to have some medicinal or therapeutic value--or, at least, it is less harmful than hours old coffee..

Dark(not milk) chocolate.

Studies have indicated that a good breadfast seems to help.  Oat bran really good.

Fresh veggies.

I'm preparing to start a "smoothie" jag--your favorite fresh fruits in a blender...

I suggest finding a friend to exercise with.  it'll help you a LOT with staying motivated as you can hold eachother accountable!  it's harder to cancel exercise time with someone else than it is with yourself.

A friend of mine gave me a new cake option, for other sweets lovers who are nevertheless on a health kick: cake made with no sugar. Sounds gross at first, but it is made with rice flour instead of wheat (good if you have wheat allergies, too) and it has cinnamon in it. You'd never guess there's no sugar. Not frosted or anything, but very tasty.

Sounds delish.

For those watch fat intake, I understand a cake made exchanging applesauce, for the fat or oil, seems to work.

Refined sugar a big demon in our culture.  U.S. News did a cover article several years ago--calling the diabetes problem in U.S. "epidemic"... Embarrassed
