Hello there, new friends.  I am searching for an old song that I did in Vacation Bible School back in the late 70's early 80's.  I think it's called you are a promise, but I can't be for sure.  what I remember of it goes:
you are a promise
you are a possibility
you are a promise
with a capital P
you can be anything,
anything God wants you to be.

you are a promise
you are a possibility
you are a promise
with a capital P
you're a great big bundle of
potentiality
and if you listen,
you'll hear God's voice
and if you're trying
He'll help you make the right choice
you're a promise to be
anything God wants you to be.

...and that's where I lose it.
I am the music director for our children's ministry at church and I thought this would be a great song for them to sing for our Pastor Appreciation service, but without some sort of music or chords or the rest of the words I am going to be hard pressed to get this accomplished.  I've google-d, AskJeeves, etc and have gotten no where.
If anyone out there can help, I'd greatly appreciate it.
thanks
yours in Christ

Hi Kristi,

Welcome to Christians Unite. That looks like a version of the song done by Gloria Gaither called "I am a Promise". There is a book for children under 6 yrs old titled "I Am a Promise: I Can Be Anything God Wants Me to Be" that has a cd with it that has that song on it. I have heard it sung with the words you are in place of I am many times.
