Former Prime Minister Sharon’s Condition Continues to Deteriorate

(IsraelNN.com) A spokesperson for Sheba Medical Center at Tel Hashomer has said that former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon’s medical condition has continued to deteriorate since a blood infection (sepsis) was discovered and treated in July. He was also treated for kidney failure at the same time.
Anat Dolev said Monday that Sharon is being treated with broad-spectrum antibiotics and steroids. Nevertheless, a brain scan showed deterioration in function. Urine output has dropped. A chest scan showed the development of a new infection.
Doctors noted changes in Sharon’s brain membrane in July but said at the time that there was “no change for the worse in the condition of his brain.” The 78-year-old former prime minister has been in a vegetative state since being felled by a massive stroke on January 4. He continues to require the aid of a respirator in order to breathe and did not regain consciousness at any time after suffering the stroke.
