Organ and Blood Donation
«

Hey everyone...
I just wanted to know if organ and blood donation is biblical...
There are scriptures that teach us that our members are accounted for. So does that mean I have to give account for all my organs when i get to heaven.

Um.............no.
How should I address this? We are a Spirit within a body, and we are to take care of our body (as we should take care of everything gifted to us by the Father) Blood donation helps other brothers and sisters does it not? In this we should also help those who don't know Him. I see no problem with blood donation since it is not harmfull to the body.
Organ donation.............well if you are done with it.........see above. When this body dies I really hope they look at that little sticker on my licence and pull the stuff out that will save someones life............as long as I am done needing it
we are not to do anything to our bodies to harm them. blood and organ donation would seem to be ok to me.

I agree with you Gary, as long as I'm not needing it any more. They might as well be used, to save anothers life.

I agree with the two above. The Bible tells us not to commit murder. But I believe that a command to make every attempt to save, to preserve the life of others is also implied. Both blood donation and organ donation (And I'll add that one can even donate a kidney and bone marrow, at least, while alive. This would fall under 'organ donation'.) save the lives of our brothers and sisters, of people who need it.
As it is, there is not enough of this happening and many are losing their lives because of it. No, we are not to harm our bodies. I believe this means we are not to smoke, to drink
heavily
, or even something as simple as getting a tattoo. These things harm the body, irreparably in some cases. However, donating organs after death, or blood/organs during life do not harm the body. And in many cases, they can fulfill that implied command to preserve the life of another.

When you are buried your organs are removed. The mortician removes all organs so why not, give another person the chance to learn about Christ. I have taped on the back my ID says, that they need to hear about Christ.

How are you going to account for something that you no longer have. " for dust thou art, and unto dust shalt thou return."

Amen PR
we are just a spirit in a body of clay. When we die the spirit lives on and the body returns to dust

Anyone can have my organs...as long as they are handed a Bible to read when they wake up from the recovery room. With a book mark that is the donor's testimony.

now thats a cool idea, and you could put that into a legal document that the recipiant has to sign in agreement before accepting the organ........hey they could always refuse

Amen, PR. And let me add that in the end, Christ will restore all things, and we will have bodies perfect as his glorified body. The only wounds we bear witness to in heaven will be the holes in his hands and in his side, and those to bear testimony of what He did for us.
I personally believe you will give more an account for taking care of and for the actions of your body than for what happens to it after you are dead. As pastor Roger said, we are bodies of dust (and water, I'll add. XD), and after we die, those members you speak of will return to dust anyhow.
EDIT: Commrade, let me also add that if God is calling someone home, there is nothing that we as humans can do about it. In the end, doctors are tools of bodily healing as much as we are God's tools of spiritual healing. The work, in the end, is of God, and not of us.

I truly believe that God gave us matching organs and blood for a reason. We are to talk care of and love our neighbor. That also goes past a few meals and some extra cash, or a warm jacket or cool drink. We love our neighbor by sharing what we have. If we have something that someone needs, and we can either live without it (a live donor kidney donation, for example), or it will turn into dust anyway (during death), why not save a life that truly will benefit from it? If it is a match, it is God's Will for that person to complete whatever plan it is that God has for them.
I am an organ donor. I also have my name on the platelet registry and a blood donor as well. If God gave it to me, He gave it to me to share. I will obey His Word, for His promise is is perfect.
Anyway, we get new heavenly bodies when we go home! Praise Jesus for the promise of new, everlasting life!
God Bless,
Kelly
