Here in Columbus, Ohio, to say that we
overemphasize football would be an
understatement. I often say Buckeye fans worship at a horseshoe-shaped altar. Ah well . . . I root for 'em, anyway.
And because we're proud of our athletic conference, we take a moment today to grieve the sudden passing of Northwestern's head coach, Randy Walker, a stand-up guy with vision and the only coach ever to take the Wildcats to three bowl games. That's not easy to do at a school that orients itself toward academics first and sports second.
I know nothing about his faith, but I respected him and request that we take a moment to pray for Coach Walker's family.
