Dante's Inferno

Hey Everyone,
I was just wondering if anyone here has read
The Inferno.
It is a Catholic view of Hell, including Purgatory. But I don't think It will offend any of you
If you don't know about it already,
The Inferno
is about Virgil leading Dante through the nine circles of hell. The complete
Divine Comedy
includes Dante going through Purgatory and Heaven.
As for translations, I would recommend the translation by John Ciardi.

The Dante's Inferno hell is for those with no hope of salvation. Those who will never know the light that is God and are thus condemned forever to darkness and suffering. Hell, in Dante's mind, was a place of absolute hopelessness, shown by the inscription above the gates of Hell,
"Abandon all hope, you who enter here."
Dante, pg. 1318
Where as the Bible shows,
Revelation 21:8
But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

The second death is spiritual death, correct? Does this have anything to do with annihilationism?

Annihilationism is not a Biblical view of hell. Annihilationism is a belief that one is in an unconcious state or is completly destroyed. As we see in the following verse it is eternal not temporary.
Jud 1:7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example,
suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

Amen PR,
Here is the definition that I found in Webster's Dictionary
ANNIHILA'TION, n.
1. The act of reducing to nothing or non-existence; or the act of destroying the form or combination of parts under which a thing exists, so that the name can no longer be applied to it

The Inferno's
"divine justice"?

Hello SYF89,
I've never read it. Everything I need to know about Heaven and hell is in the Holy Bible. I think that folks pay too much attention to books other than the Holy Bible and get themselves horribly confused.
Love In Christ,
Tom
Galatians 2:16 NASB nevertheless knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the Law but through faith in Christ Jesus, even we have believed in Christ Jesus, so that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the Law; since by the works of the Law no flesh will be justified.

Greetings my freind
Dantes inferno would make a good science fiction book.If memory serves me correctly the author was mad at some in the rcc,and this story was his way of lashing out to those of whom he was mad at.But to apply this to the bible as if any of it is biblical only shows a definate lack of understanding of the bible and truth.May it never be.So be it.
