California Family Advocate Holding Out for Governor's Veto of S.B. 1437

by Jim Brown
May 22, 2006

(AgapePress) - - A pro-family activist says sexual indoctrination of all California public school students will be the norm if a controversial education bill is signed into law by Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

By a virtual party-line vote (22-15), the California Senate passed a bill earlier this month that would require public school history textbooks to include discussion of homosexual and transgender people's contributions to society. S.B. 1437, sponsored by lesbian Sheila Kuehl, is now in the State Assembly, which is also led by Democrats.

Section 1 of the bill reads: "No teacher shall give instruction nor shall a school district sponsor any activity that reflects adversely upon persons because of their race or ethnicity, gender, disability, nationality, sexual orientation, or religion." In addition, says the measure, "No textbook or other instructional materials shall be adopted ... for use in the public schools that contains any matter reflecting adversely upon persons because of their race or ethnicity, gender, disability, nationality, sexual orientation, or religion ...." (Section 3) Pro-family advocates contend "gender" in this context includes transsexuality, and "sexual orientation" includes homosexuality and bisexuality.

According to Randy Thomasson with the Sacramento-based Campaign for Children and Families (CCF), the bill is likely to pass the Assembly, considering that more than 90 percent of its Democratic members fully support what he labels "the homosexual, bisexual, and transsexual agenda." Consequently he believes the only way to prevent the bill from becoming law in the Golden State is for Governor Schwarzenegger -- whom he describes as "a liberal Republican" -- to veto it.

"Although he's signed many bisexual-transsexual-homosexual agenda bills, he's accountable to Republican, conservative and pro-family voters in this election year because he wants to woo them into casting a 'yes' vote for Arnold in November," notes Thomasson, who is calling on pro-family voters everywhere to let their voice be heard. "[T]hat's the main responsibility of California's pro-family voters and voters nationwide."

In Thomasson's estimation, Democratic lawmakers in his state "have declared war on mothers and fathers and their children." S.B. 1437, he says, is "terrible sexual indoctrination."

"It does not reflect the wishes or values of parents. Parents want their children to go to school to learn academics," he says. Yet Democrats in the California legislature, he adds, persist in pursuing such legislation "when California students don't even graduate at the rate they should be."

Thomasson is calling on voters within and outside of California to call Governor Schwarzenegger and ask him to pledge to veto the "homosexual history bill."
