Above all, it is to be hoped that the next step will focus on the more delicate issues of religious freedom, the absolute value of human rights, the relationship between religion and society, the use of violence, etc.., in short current issues that worry both the Muslim world (and I would say above all Muslim people) as well as the West.
The Letter of 138 Muslim scholars to the Pope and Christian Leaders
I would be curious about which world this was written from. It doesn't resemble anything in this world.

'Mr. Suicide Bomb'
goes to Washington
Rice, lawmakers met with Muslim sheik
known for justifying attacks on Israelis
A senior Muslim cleric who is a prominent justifier of suicide bombings met last week with senators and congressmen and consulted last month with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, WND has learned.
Sheik Taysir Tamimi, chief Palestinian justice, also claimed in a recently released book for which he was interviewed that the Torah was "falsified," Jewish and Christian history were "invented," the Jewish Temples never existed and the Al Aqsa Mosque was built by angels.
"I am very glad to have this occasion to speak to Congress and the Senate and have access to groups and individuals that form American policy," said Tamimi in a statement.
"I emphasized in the meetings the importance of religious coexistence and that the Israeli-Palestinian conflict cannot be solved without creating a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital," the he said.
Tamimi is considered the second most important Palestinian cleric after Muhammad Hussein, the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem.
He met in Washington last week with a slew of lawmakers as part of a new interfaith religious organization – the Council for Religious Institutions in the Holy Land – formed with the stated purpose of promoting Israeli-Palestinian peace.
The council includes Israeli chief rabbis, top Muslim Palestinian judges and leading Catholic, Orthodox and Protestant clerics from Israel and the Palestinian areas. It is reportedly funded by the United States Agency for International Development, which also provides millions in annual aid to help the Palestinians build infrastructure in the West Bank and Gaza Strip.
Tamimi and the council met Nov. 6 with Sens. Joseph Liebermann, I-Conn.; Tom Coburn, R-Okla.; and John Ensign, R-Nev. The next day the sheik held meetings with more than a dozen House members, including Rep. Keith Ellison, D-Minn., the first Muslim elected to Congress.
Tamimi also reportedly met last week with David Welch, U.S. deputy assistant secretary of state for near eastern affairs, and consulted last month with Rice regarding how to promote a future Palestinian state.
His office told WND the Islamic cleric is slated to meet with President Bush, but no such visit could be verified.
Tamimi's Washington trip was timed to generate support for an upcoming U.S.-sponsored Annapolis summit at which Prime Minister Ehud Olmert is expected to outline a Palestinian state including most of the West Bank. Some reports claim Olmert also is willing to cede sections of Jerusalem.
According to media reports, Tamimi and his group expressed to U.S. lawmakers last week a six-point platform that includes plans to set up a panel representing all the faiths that would condemn media or government incitement against any religious group; a board that would review educational materials for incitement; and a "hot line" to address any emerging crisis surrounding access to holy sites.
But in the recently released book, "Schmoozing with Terrorists," by WND Jerusalem bureau chief Aaron Klein, Tamimi presented a different attitude, stating Jews have no right to Jerusalem or to Judaism's holiest site, the Temple Mount.
Tamimi also is well-known for his justification of Palestinian suicide bombings and was accused by Israel of inciting violence at the beginning of the second Palestinian intifada that started in September 2000.
When asked to condemn suicide attacks during a video-taped interview with Klein for "Schmoozing" earlier this year, Tamimi refused.
Instead Tamimi stated: "A suicide bomber who sees he will get killed by F-16s prefers to defend himself and has nothing but himself to defend himself. ... We believe he who gets killed will go to Allah in the sky and be with the prophets and the martyrs and the just people."
Tamimi went on during the interview with Klein to claim Jews have no historical connection to Jerusalem or Israel and that the Jewish Temples never existed.
"Israel started since 1967 making archeological digs to show Jewish signs to prove the relationship between Judaism and the city, and they found nothing. There is no Jewish connection to Israel before the Jews invaded in the 1880's," said Tamimi.
"About these so-called two Temples, they never existed, certainly not at the Haram Al- Sharif (Temple Mount)," Tamimi said.
The Palestinian cleric denied in "Schmoozing" the validity of dozens of digs verified by experts worldwide revealing Jewish artifacts from the First and Second Temples throughout Jerusalem, including on the Temple Mount itself; excavations revealing Jewish homes and a synagogue in a site in Jerusalem called the City of David; or even the recent discovery of a Second Temple Jewish city in the vicinity of Jerusalem.
He said descriptions of the Jewish Temples in the Hebrew Tanach, in the Talmud and in Byzantine and Roman writings from the Temple periods were forged and that the Torah was "falsified" to claim Biblical patriarchs and matriarchs were Jewish when indeed they were prophets for Islam.
"All this is not real. We don't believe in all your versions. Your Torah was falsified. The text as given to the Muslim prophet Moses never mentions Jerusalem. Maybe Jerusalem was mentioned in the rest of the Torah, which was falsified by the Jews."
Asked about the Western Wall, one of the holiest Jewish structures, Tamimi said the wall was a tying post for Muhammad's horse and that it is part of the Al Aqsa Mosque, even though the Wall predates the mosque by over 1,000 years.
"The Western Wall is the western wall of the Al Aqsa Mosque. It's where Prophet Muhammad tied his animal which took him from Mecca to Jerusalem to receive the revelations of Allah."
Tamimi went on to claim to Klein the Al Aqsa Mosque, which has sprung multiple leaks and has had to be repainted several times, was built by angels.
"Al Aqsa was build by the angels 40 years after the building of Al-Haram in Mecca. This we have no doubt is true," he was quoted as saying in "Schmoozing."

2 killed as blast rocks Philippines lower house
Congressman threatened by Muslim militants among those killed
A Philippine congressman who had been targeted by Muslim militants was among two people killed late Tuesday when a bomb exploded at an entrance of the Philippine House of Representatives, police said.
Rep. Wahab Akbar’s chief of staff said the congressman, a former member of a Muslim rebel group that signed a peace accord with the government in 1996, died at the hospital.
Metropolitan Manila police chief Geary Barias said a lawmaker’s driver also was killed in the explosion, which went off as the House ended its session. Eight people were injured.
Story continues below ↓advertisement
Investigators suspect the bomb may have been placed on one of two parked motorcycles then remotely detonated as Akbar approached his car, fatally wounding him and ripping the motorcycles apart, Barias said.
"It looks like Congressman Akbar was the target," Barias said. Police and soldiers in the capital went on high alert.
Akbar, a former governor of southern Basilan province, had been targeted by the Abu Sayyaf Muslim extremist group in the past for launching offensives against them.
"At this point in time I’m saying it’s a bomb, but I can’t say what type of bomb," said Avelino Razon, the national police chief.
The bomb went off as drivers were picking up lawmakers and their staff and damaged a number of cars outside the southern entrance to the building.
"I felt the blast although I was on the other side of the building. The ceiling of the canopy near the south wing entrance came down," Rep. Teodoro Casino told The Associated Press.
Destroyed motorcycle under investigation
Razon said a destroyed motorcycle was found and experts were conducting chemical swabs on it to find out if it was used to carry the bomb.
Police cordoned off the massive House complex in suburban Quezon City shortly after the explosion.
"If this is terrorist action or work of an anarchist I’m sure it was deliberately done to cow us," House Speaker Jose de Venecia told reporters at the site.
Political tensions are high in the country. President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo is facing a third impeachment complaint in as many years.
"We cannot rule out anything until the investigation is completed," de Venecia said. "There are many threats to us personally and officially. We will have to decide whether we have to augment security."
He said he will speak with Arroyo "to inform her tonight that we will not be cowed by terrorists."
Manila jittery since mall blast
The Philippine capital has been jittery since last month, when an explosion damaged a shopping mall in the financial district, killing 11 people and injuring more than 100. A preliminary police report said it was an accident, although the owners of the mall disputed the finding.
Muslim militants also have bombed targets in the capital in the past.
The slain congressman, Akbar, was once a member of the Moro National Liberation Front, a Muslim rebel group that dropped its secessionist goal and signed a peace accord with the government in September 1996.
Some security officials have suspected that Akbar knew the leaders of the Abu Sayyaf, a Muslim radical group that has its roots on Basilan island. But they said he later had a falling out with Abu Sayyaf commanders and started fighting them.
Akbar also had political opponents, including those that ran against one of his wives who succeeded him as governor of Basilan.

This has been going on for many years. islamic terrorism actually started in 1521 although it remained fairly quiet until 1969 when it escalated into war being called Guerrilla Warfare at that time. The Philippines being mostly dominated by Roman Catholics (84% of the population) has been declining in recent years with islamists advancing in numbers and in power. As you can see from this it is a trend that is happening worlwide as islam strives to take over and rule the entire world.

Tamimi: Islam is a religion of peace
author Saturday November 10, 2007 13:43author by PNN - IMEMC
In a speech delivered to the US house of congress on Friday, the head of the Islamic Supreme Council of the Jurisprudence, Sheikh Taiseer Tamimi, called on the US Administration to support the basic rights of the Palestinian people, and to end the Israeli occupation.
The Sheikh, currently on a tour of the United States, also admonished the Israeli government for its role in barring Palestinains from entering Jerusaelm to worship at their holy sites, arguing that the Palestinian people have the right to live in dignity, and that the benefits of a peaceful and just solution to the Jersualem issue would be felt the world over.
Of religion, the Sheikh branded Islam a religion of peace that rejects war, violence and terrorism, and advocates dialogue, peace, cooperation and the free exchange of knowledge between cultures and religions.
As part of his tour, the Sheikh is scheduled to meet with a selection of governmental figures and religious leaders across the United States.

ISRAEL
!!
Tamimi, is a dip-o-mat, who is trying to use words for a take over, in place of violence. I'll almost bet that, given the chance he would use violence to get what he wants.

Intolerance of Muslims 'compares to Nazi Germany'
By Stephanie Kennedy
Updated Mon Nov 12, 2007 5:00pm AEDT
Muslims in Britain are warning that intolerance in the United Kingdom is reaching dangerous levels and they are drawing parallels with Nazi Germany.
The Muslim Council of Britain says perceptions of Islam are so negative there is now a danger people's minds will be poisoned against Muslims as they were against the Jews in Germany in the 1930s.
Last week the head of MI5 revealed that Britain's security organisations are tracking 2,000 people living in the UK who pose a security threat, and that teenagers aged 15 are being groomed to be suicide bombers.
A day later, the Brown Government unveiled details of its tough new anti-terrorism laws, which double the period of detention without charge to 56 days, allows for questioning suspects after they have been charged and a ban on foreign travel for convicted terrorists.
While it is never openly stated, there is little doubt that the majority of the possible terrorists in the UK are Muslims.
Now, the Muslim Council of Britain has accused the Government of stoking tensions, arguing the amount of debate relating to Muslims is disproportionate.
Citing Nazi Germany in the 1930s as an example of how people's minds could be poisoned against a community, the Muslim Council says the air is thick with suspicion and unease about Muslims.
Inayat Bunglawala is the assistant secretary-general of the Muslim Council.
"What you had in the 1930s was all sorts of popular fictions were spread about the Jewish community, that they were in control of money in Germany, they were responsible for all the ills that were occurring to Germany," he said.
"I mean, they were made into the folk devils, and I think there is a danger that the word 'Muslim' in the UK is becoming synonymous with bad news.
"I think just as in the 1930s, the Jewish community in Germany was collectively vilified and we saw what happened. I think we need to be careful."
Professor Anthony Glees has written extensively on intelligence issues in the UK and he dismisses the Muslim Council comparison to Nazi Germany.
"That not only demonstrates complete ignorance of the history of the Third Reich, but it totally falsifies the position in the United Kingdom," he said.
"Muslims are as much victims of these jihadists as anybody else."
Sir Paul Lever is a former chairman of the Joint Intelligence Committee and he also disagrees with the Muslim Council's views.
"We mustn't demonise the whole Muslim community - it is a very, very tiny minority who are involved [in terrorist activity]," he said.
"We do need to keep it in proportion, we do need to take care in our public discourse that we don't demonise all Muslims, but equally, we mustn't get into the state where we are so fearful of offending people that we are unwilling to talk about what are, sadly, very, very worrying facts."
The British Government insists the new anti-terrorism laws are not aimed at a particular race, religion, or group.

Pig's walkabout on planned mosque site sparks protests
Padua, 12 Nov. (AKI) - Muslims and non-Muslims have slammed the attempted 'descrecation' of a plot of land earmarked for a mosque in the northern city of Padua by members of the anti-immigrant Northern League party who paraded a pig on the site over the weekend.
"We believe in God not in superstition," said local imam Kahlhil Boussuni, quoted by La Repubblica on Monday. "And we intend to build our place of prayer and worship where only the faithful will be permitted to enter."
Giancarlo Galan, the right-wing president of the northern Veneto region, where Padua is located, also voiced his disapproval. "This is a serious and unacceptable act which we pray will not be repeated," he stated.
"This is a shameful gesture that can only fuel hatred," added Padua's left-wing mayor, Falvio Zanonato.
A cross-party delegation of politicians as well as representatives from pacifist, secular and religious organisations on Sunday visited the patch of land located near an industrial zone to express solidarity with local Muslims.
Pigs are considered unclean in the Muslim and Jewish faiths.
"The legality so much vaunted by the Italian right cannot be in one direction only," said local Green party councillor, Aurora D'Agostino, adding that she was filing a formal complaint to local magistrates about the episode.
"Our objective was to attack the left-wing local council which gives immigrants privileged treatment compared to Italians, and to underline the principle of reciprocity: how many Christian churches are there in Saudi Arabia?" said the secretary of Padua's Northern League branch, Maurizio Conte.
Northern League senator and former minister Roberto Calderoli, in October proposed a regular "pig day" in which he threatened to take his pet pig on land where fast-growing Muslim immigrant communities were planning new mosques.
A growing backlash against Muslim and immigrants in Italy, fed in large part by fears of terrorism and other crimes is especially intense in Veneto.
The region has attracted the largest share of Italy's immigrants because of abundant work in factories and farms. At least 10 percent of Padua's 200,000 residents are immigrants.

I can't think of many religions that wouldn't invite you to their place of worship as long as you're respectful. As we know, nearly any Christian church will welcome anyone with open hearts and open arms if they want to come explore and learn.

Gays Deserve Torture, Death Penalty, Iranian Minister Says
Tuesday , November 13, 2007

Homosexuals deserve to be executed or tortured and possibly both, an Iranian leader told British MPs during a private meeting at a peace conference, The Times has learned.
Mohsen Yahyavi is the highest-ranked politician to admit that Iran believes in the death penalty for homosexuality after a spate of reports that gay youths were being hanged.
President Ahmadinejad, questioned by students in New York two months ago about the executions, dodged the issue by suggesting that there were no gays in his country.
Britain regularly challenges Iran about its gay hangings, stonings and executions of adulterers and perceived moral criminals, Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) papers show.
The latest row involves a woman hanged this June in the town of Gorgan after becoming pregnant by her brother. He was absolved after expressing his remorse. Britain said that this demonstrated the unequal treatment of men and women in law and breached Iran’s pledge to restrict the death penalty to the most serious crimes.
A series of reported executions of gays, including two underage boys whose public hanging was posted on the internet, has alarmed human rights campaigners.
The Pet Shop Boys dedicated Fundamental, their Grammy-nominated album, to Mahmoud Asqari and Ayad Marhouni, who were hanged in Justice Square in Mashhad in 2005. Graphic photographs of the execution of the youths, who were under 18 when arrested, were released by the Iranian Students News Agency.
Gay rights groups in Britain, such as Outrage!, accuse Iran of cloaking executions for homosexuality with bogus charges for more serious crimes.
Under the Freedom of Information Act, the FCO released papers to The Times about the death penalty being used in Iran for homosexuality, adultery and sex outside marriage.
Minutes taken by an official describe a meeting between British and Iranian MPs at the Inter-Parliamentary Union, a peace body, in May. When the Britons raised the hangings of Asqari and Marhouni, the leader of the Iranian delegation, Mr Yahyavi, a member of his parliament’s energy committee, was unflinching. He "explained that according to Islam gays and lesbianism were not permitted," the record states. "He said that if homosexual activity is in private there is no problem, but those in overt activity should be executed [he initially said tortured but changed it to executed]. He argued that homosexuality is against human nature and that humans are here to reproduce. Homosexuals do not reproduce."
Nicole Pichet, a researcher who also took notes of the gathering, told The Times that the discussion began with British MPs discussing the underage gay hangings. Mr Yahyavi responded by saying homosexuality was to blame for a lot of diseases such as Aids.
Ann Clwyd, the Labor MP and head of Britain’s delegation, said yesterday: "It is of great concern that these attitudes persist and we made it clear what we felt."
Iran, Mauritania, Saudi Arabia, Sudan, the United Arab Emirates, Yemen and Nigeria apply the death penalty for homosexuality, according to the International Lesbian and Gay Association.

— Malek Ghorbany sentenced to stoning for adultery
— Leila Qomi sentenced to stoning for adultery and assisting a man who killed her husband. He received 100 lashes

L.A. caves to political correctness; shelves Muslim mapping
LOS ANGELES- A police plan to map out Muslim communities, a proposal that civil rights groups sharply criticized as racial and religious profiling, has been shelved, a police spokeswoman said Wednesday.
The LAPD planned to have its counterterrorism bureau identify Muslim enclaves to determine which might be likely to become isolated and susceptible to "violent, ideologically based extremism."
Several Muslim groups and the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California criticized the plan and sent a letter to Deputy Chief Michael P. Downing expressing their concerns.
"There was a clear message from the Muslim community that they were not comfortable with it. So we listened," said Mary Grady, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department. She couldn't immediately say when the plan might resume.
Grady said the remaining part of the initiative, which includes outreach efforts to strengthen ties with Muslim communities, would continue, and police planned to meet with Muslim leaders Thursday.
In a statement, Salam Al-Marayati, executive director of the Muslim Public Affairs Council, praised the decision.
"I am glad to hear (Downing) is putting the plan aside," Al-Marayati said. "All Muslim organizations are united in purpose to defend the rights of Muslim Americans while developing a positive and constructive relationship with the LAPD."
Downing and other city officials had defended the plan, saying the idea was to deepen ties with Muslim communities. The plan would have had data assembled by the University of Southern California's Center for Risk and Economic Analysis.
There are an estimated 500,000 Muslims in Los Angeles, Orange and Riverside counties.

Saudi punishes gang rape victim with 200 lashes
Nov 15 10:51 AM US/Eastern
A court in the ultra-conservative kingdom of
Saudi Arabia is punishing a female victim of gang rape with 200 lashes and six months in jail
, a newspaper reported on Thursday.
The 19-year-old woman -- whose six armed attackers have been sentenced to jail terms -- was initially ordered to undergo 90 lashes for "being in the car of an unrelated male at the time of the rape," the Arab News reported.
But in a new verdict issued after Saudi Arabia's Higher Judicial Council ordered a retrial, the court in the eastern town of Al-Qatif more than doubled the number of lashes to 200.
A court source told the English-language Arab News that the judges had decided to punish the woman further for "her attempt to aggravate and influence the judiciary through the media."
Saudi Arabia enforces a strict Islamic doctrine known as Wahhabism and forbids unrelated men and women from associating with each other, bans women from driving and forces them to cover head-to-toe in public.
Last year, the court sentenced six Saudi men to between one and five years in jail for the rape as well as ordering lashes for the victim, a member of the minority Shiite community.
But the woman's lawyer Abdul Rahman al-Lahem appealed, arguing that the punishments were too lenient in a country where the offence can carry the death penalty.
In the new verdict issued on Wednesday, the Al-Qatif court also toughened the sentences against the six men to between two and nine years in prison.
The case has angered members of Saudi Arabia's Shiite community. The convicted men are Sunni Muslims, the dominant community in the oil-rich Gulf state.
Lahem, also a human rights activist, told AFP on Wednesday that the court had banned him from handling the rape case and withdrew his licence to practise law because he challenged the verdict.
He said he has also been summoned by the ministry of justice to appear before a disciplinary committee in December.
Lahem said the move might be due to his criticism of some judicial institutions, and "contradicts King Abdullah's quest to introduce reform, especially in the justice system."
King Abdullah last month approved a new body of laws regulating the judicial system in Saudi Arabia, which rules on the basis of sharia, or Islamic law.

Isn't islam wonderful? Just look at how loving and tender this peaceful Religion is...... a
woman gets raped by multiple men, and her body is going to be turned into hamburger meat
. Words can't describe how disgusted I am right now!!
I have a feeling she isn't going to survive the flogging, 200 lashes will probably kill her. Women in Saudi Arabia are treated like Dogs, the population is brainwashed from the beginning and they only hear one thing their whole lives.... islam. Again islam says they are a religion of peace.
I say

Isn't islam wonderful? Just look at how loving and tender this peaceful Religion is...... a
woman gets raped by multiple men, and her body is going to be turned into hamburger meat
. Words can't describe how disgusted I am right now!!
I have a feeling she isn't going to survive the flogging, 200 lashes will probably kill her. Women in Saudi Arabia are treated like Dogs, the population is brainwashed from the beginning and they only hear one thing their whole lives.... islam. Again islam says they are a religion of peace.
I say
HOG WASH!!
The weird part of this is she's the VICTIM. There is no interest in finding and punishing the men who did this to her. Bluntly, this is twisted and evil.
